Hey guys,

Having some issues trying to run AoE on Windows Vista. I've tried Compatibility modes on XP sp2 and 95 so far but no matter what I try it won't let me start any games -- it says I need to insert the CD ... the one that's sitting in my drive right as I type. I've tried No-CD patches thinking maybe I can just patch it but alas none of the CD patches recognize the version of AoE.

Any help is appreciated.

Edit: Nevermind, it just started working today... I had to pop the CD out and back in a few times before it finally recognized that the CD was in there.

Don't worry, I'm saving my old Win98 SE install CD and I'm thinking about building a nice W98 PC just for insurance, I have a lot of ten year old games. Or, if my Vista PC goes bonkers I can just install Win98 on it.

So I'm not the only 98 fan, after all. It's good because of it's simplicity.

If you were to install it, would it still have the memory and graphic cards and stuff like that? Because that would solve most of 98's problems I've had anyway.

The only thing wrong with my 6 year old W98 PC is, the
hard drive died. It already had 1.7 CPU, 512 Meg RAM,
64 Meg video ram, so I wanna just stick in a new drive and reinstall W98 and the drivers for the existing hardware, it should be just like it was before. It couldn't play some newer games that need Win XP or 128 Meg video ram but that's OK.

AOE works fine for me on Vista.

And drop the AoE MMOG... Cmon... If we actually want to accomplish something, let's try and go for a smaller achievment... Look at Dawn of Man.

AOE is rubbish it has no soul and its just annoying housing limits and home cities load of rubbish AOE and AOE2 is where its at

you can play this on vista but the only glitch i have is that i cant create new campagins or add scenerios to existing ones

btw you can play Caesar III on vista you just have to remove the files from your old p.c includng the short cut on desktop and it works fine
