Brush = No idea...
Blitz = Play like Blitz (one of the mods here) does. Ie. boom enormous amounts of units and hardcore attack, not caring about losses (that's what I thought a blitz is, anyway)
Push = I presume you force the player backwards into a corner
Probe = Send random units (max amour scouts work well) into their base to kill villagers. Highly effective when you enter bronze.
Power up = Boom on resources, then go hardcore on technologies.

At least, that's what I think they all are. Someone else can prove me wrong. Oh, and where did you get these from?

maybe that's what I should do, spend a few more hours in the academy lol, cos I suck at most things in aoe/ror!

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!

I suppose brush means bowman rush.

While sausages are tasty, you might cut your finger with that pencil over there.

Or Bronze rush?

That would be Fast Bronze.

Think about it, Phoenie gets a wood bonus which means they can produce a few more of those naughty guys.

LittleFreak brush is not a Fast Bronze cuz Fast Bronze is already in the list.

Brush I think is boat rush for Phoenicians. It's something that takes advantage of their amazing wood bonus.

The glossary needs an update badly, that's clear.

I think that a Brush is a bowman rush - for obvious reasons. For one, the writer mentions a bowman rush, and he's completely silent about war ships - funny that, in an article about the civ that can blow away all opposition on a wet map if done right.
And a blitz can't be a BlitzkriegComin style gameplay because this article was written before Blitz entered the game - or I think so.

Also notice how the writer stresses that you use the versatility of Phoenie in Bronze - surprise your opponent by attacking with a different set of units every time you go at his throat. Blitz's style is more brute force.

Phoenicia is one of the fastest civs in the game (after Shang). Also like Shang, they have an amazing pre Iron tech tree. So you need to make that advatange count early, ie. hit your opponent hard in Bronze.

Phoenicia struggle on land maps once everyone's hit bronze but if there's lots of water, Phoenicia truly rules the waves.

From my DM experience, sea DM's simply became everyone picks Phoenician and then whoever upgraded to Juggernaught first won (assuming they had a large enough navy).

Their being so fast was before the patch, right? From what I understand the patch slows them down, but by how much in today's gameplay?

I think the wood bonus was decreased to 15% instead of 54, so they're not that fast now.

The blitz was (if I remember correctly) where you would get to Tool Age as fast as possible. 12-16 vills total pop and get to Tool Age around/under 7 minutes and attack with axers. I had nothing to do with this strat.

Pre-patch phoenician was a monster. I think it is fun sometimes to uninstall AoE/RoR and play Phoenician pre-patch just to see the crazy booming.

Can you survive the Blitzkrieg?

You don't have to uninstall it for that - just copy the original files from your CD to your harddisk and run them instead of the patched versions.

I -guess- you don't even have to copy all the original files. Copying the original exe, and renaming it something like empiresx10.exe should work too (I've always done it that way, and so I have both versions 'installed' in only one folder)

So it should look like

/-Age of Empires <== folder
-empires.exe <== AoE executable
-empiresx.exe <== RoR executable, patched
-empiresx10.exe <== copied from game CD, RoR exe, unpatched.

Edit: Weird that the forum removes empty spaces at the beginning of each line. When I edit the post however, they are still there.

That's exactly what I meant; except I call the old versions aoeprepatch.exe or something like that.

I still regularly remove the patch to play older campaigns, where the patch ruins some great map tricks.

Still, I wonder why ES never balanced the Hittite siege machine in a patch.

I think 1.0c brings more bugs than it fixes. I play without the patch unless I play MP.
