For some reason, when ever I play AoE, without RoR, the music is different. Some of it just doesn't play (To compare it to a song, there's backrgound music but no voices). Why, and how do I fix it?

I've noticed that when u launch AOE and then go to the desktop and then return to the gane the music changes. U can hear the same music but only piano solo. U meant that?

Not sure, but it's likely that it starts the music over again when you exit out-go back in... And more or less it gets all screwy, as it's looping, overlapping the current music. Whatever is most prominent gets stripped away, as otherwise the game could crash, from what I've heard. Piano solo... Probably the reason why.

I don't know what your problem is Phil, for sure anyway. I don't even really use AOE without RoR. Generally speaking, with most expansion packs the music changes, so that's most likely your case. It depends though... If you have the RoR disc in and you start the AoE application, it will for sure get all screwy. If you are using AoE gold, that might be a different story...

First post in a year hmmm? A bit strange. Neve bothered to come and say hello XD

Belated welcome. You should be more specific about your installation, so we can help you better. When you play the original AoE with the original AoE CD you may find that the music will always be played, but some dounds will go missing, like the sounds of villagers chopping wood, hunting, building or whatever - after a few seconds into the game they're mute. Apart from that I'm clueless about the problem you describe.

My version is the gold edition, so I only have one CD. Basically, the piano solo plays but nothing else, like you said. I have windows Vista, if that means anything.

And the only reason why I've never posted before is because it never worked. I forgot that the 'P' was capitalized, so I never got through.

Ah, Vista is it? well check this thread: http://aoe.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/aoecgi/display.cgi?action=ct&f=1,5657,,all mentions sound issues in there. I have vista but have heard that I should not install it till the sp1 comes out... really though the only real problem I have heard it has is with networking, is this the case? or does it have any other major bugs?

The sound is the only bug, with this or any other game.
