Over the past few months I/we have been testing fast bronzeing on TPI multiplaying. We know that the faster you bronze the more chance you have in winning, but as with us, on some occasions even the fastest players have had trouble reaching a 13-15 minute bronze because of a bad scenario. We felt that if this happened to one of the multiplayers, that player was soon dealt with by the faster player who happened to be placed in a better place on the map with stocks of wood, food etc etc all around him. So what can the player do if he just happens to find these stocks in open a far away places from the default start possition. Well this is what we tested, and although the unlucky player who happen to have very little stock still lost games we still managed to improve his play by trying out different formats. What we would like is input from fast players who feel they can get over this handicap, or know a better way to than we have found.
The way we seen to have improved our speed if resorces are low is to use a time factor. This time factor works like this: Normally I/we try too get at least 20-24 villagers together before going tool with most on food, if we get this right at about 11-12 minutes we can normally go bronze at 13-15. Only 2-3 minutes after tooling. But if villages can't find enough food and spend too much time looking, this fast start is imposible. After trying one thing and then another we finally came up with this (also with the help of many Wireplay players in England), if you find your having trouble finding the stocks you need after about 5 minute play then stop making villagers at 8 minutes and start getting the needs for tooling as quick as you can. After you have tooled we have found you can soon catch up to the other players because you can then go scouting with better units. We are not saying this is the best way to catch the front runners but at least its gives you some hope. So, there it is, sent us your ideas so we can test. We are sure there is a better way but we have not found it yet.
One last thing for all of whose who think its easy. Not that long ago I played a multiplaying game and could not find any food for ages, in the end I was defeated early and so came out of the game. With the game continuing without me, as you should know you can see the whole map and follow the conclusion of the said game. Well as soon as the map opened to me I then saw my food, gold and stone stock trapped behind trees and the only way through was to chop trees for about 8-10 minutes to reach the food stock. To reach the rest, about other 5 minutes were needed. Has anyone had a scenario hit them like this hit me, I like to know?
In battles many have been won by a little luck, but many lost by having no luck.
