That's right. When you start in the Bronze Age all Tool Age techs have been researched, you get them free of charge. When you start in Iron, you get the Bronze Age teechnologies for free (except Writing in AoE, you can't research that either; a bad fluke).

They are different scenarios. Perhaps the simplest way to put it is that 'you are governing a different town'.

Wheel is not automatically researched when we advance to a new age, is this because it is required for chariots e.t.c?

We start in Bronze age in the 'Building wonder' mission, and still we have the Wheel technology for researching!?!

Right but now we have a new problem, i am at the last scenario of the Egyptians campaign and wanted to upgrade to long swordsman. Now i have a bunch of short swordsman and all the requirements to upgrade to broad and then long swords but the only two options i see are the axe man and the short swordsman in the barracks ( i am in the Iron Age ).

It's better to use the units that Egypt gets bonuses for: chariots and chariot archers.

The conversion range is for moving units only, not for buildings. When a priest converts a building he has to move close to it. If he could convert buildings from a distance, towers would be completely worthless. Image you can convert enemy buildings across a wall - it would kill the game.
Re horse archers: each civilisation has its own technology tree with available units and technologies that it can research. Check out the files in the DOC folder on the CD for full infos on all civilisations.
