I keep getting this error. I am trying to play with just 2 machines over a LAN. AOE 1, WindowsXP on both machines, fully updated. Dell computers. Occurs even when the firewall is turned off. I have updated the network drivers. Am not using a trainer. The computers are not overclocked. Connect without difficulty and play for 5 to 10 minutes before the above error.
Please help.

Have you bought the game or downloaded a crack?
While sausages are tasty, you might cut your finger with that pencil over there.

I have bought the game and copied the disc so I have one in each computer.

Maybe that's it. I don't know, but maybe there's some kind of copy control that prevents a copied disc to work online.
You wouldn't need a second disc anyway. Once you started the game, open the CD drive and put the disc into the other computer to start the game there too.
I don't know if this method will solve the problem, but it might be worth a try.

Thanks. No luck. I am going to try with AOE II.
The frustrating thing is the program worked fine across our home network until I installed a new computer.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Are they both patched? Because that might be the problem if they aren't.
