Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I've always played AoE. What brought me here is a question that has been puzzling me since pretty much the day I got this game (which was waaaay long ago). Whenever I start a Random Map game or Deathmatch on single player, I always like to have 8 other computer players, but the thing is, they ALWAYS ally together (all 7 of them) and try to destroy me, which really makes all games one-sided (1 against 7!? C'mon!). Is there a reason why this happens? What can I do to stop this? I've tried checking the "Fixed Positions" before starting the game but the same thing happens. And my apologies if this question has been asked thousands of times before.

If I want to have some allies I use team numbers in the settings.

Me, Avenger and Hanz.

DA's right. You need to use team numbers.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I usually don't bother having any CP allies in the first place. They're plain useless.

*edit* Oh btw, welcome to AoEH!

You usually play against humans though, so you might have more experience than someone who only battles the computer.

Dark Avenger's method should work for you. As long as enemies are neutral to you it's also possible to make them ally you by tributing them a lot of gold (like 1000 or so), however, I doubt it will be worth it, better spend the gold on cavalry or archers.

Never stand where you start. I always move from my starting location to try to find a secure position to begin my building. This gives the CIs an advantage because they are building as you are moving. But they are not bothering you and it gives you time to find a good position to begin building and defence. Just a thought.

The trick is to use your pop 50 wisely. Because you can only have a small standing army, its not good if you lose it all to towers. Get in there fast, ruin the CP's economy and the rest will fall.
