When you are in the Tool Age, mine Gold with about 3 Villies, that way you will have Gold for the Bronze Age.
-Thats only with non-chariot faring civs, like minoan.
-Using villagers to kill clubmen is good, but check if they have armor first.
Tips:
-Use stone throwers with any army to make it powerful versus most foot archers.
-Use chariots to harrass, but you probably shouldnt use it as a proper army, because they lack the firepower that compies etc. do.
-Ballista and Helepolis are very good when protected, mix them with romanswordsmen to have an effective iron age army.
-Mixing catapults/heavy catapults with archers is probably not a good idea, as the archers low hit points make them vulnerable to thecatapults splash damage. To reduce these effect, put your catapults in front of your archers.
-Massed archers beats everything eventually, except maybe skillfully used catapults.
-90% of the time you will want a market in the tool age to provide the important wodcutting and gold mining bonuses as well as to provide farms for later on.
-In the mid-late game build excess housing, having a population support of 140 when you have 100 men can help when an enemy attacks and you devote heaps of resources to army creation.
-Slingers massed in the tool-bronze transition can aid in preventing being overrun by chariot archers/compies.
-If you have plenty f surplus wood, send villagers all around the map ad plant towncenters, and then, if one of your bases gets wiped out, boom like crazy form the other 6 you have left.
-If your opponents score is much higher than yours in the tool age, it probably means that they are tool rush or that they are much better than you. In the prior case, you should strive to build defenses and get some military units as soon as possible.
-No army is unbeatable...experiment a little in the scenario editor to find out what counters what.
-Speed and line of sight are sorely underestimated by some players. Tossing in a scout with your cavalry regiment means they can more easily find enemies, and pursue fleeing opponents.
