Today I tried to join a zonematch game and everything worked fine. The host started the game and I got a screen saying: "Multiplayer game is loading" or something like that. This message stayed on my screen for a minute or so. Then AoE ended again and I could see, that the game I tried to join had started and I was listed up in the list of players in the game, but, bad luck, I wasn't in. I could also no more join it.

Maybe my Firewall is the reason. Or my Computer. Or my AoE version. Or ...

Please help me!

Maybe it was just that one game. Try play some other games cos it might just of been a fault with the game u were trying to play.

If they dont work, um, don't ask me I know squatt bout playing on The Zone.

I tried it 5 times already, with 5 different games, but anyway, thanks for replying.

Can you tell us more about your system and what you are running?

Are you by any chance running a Wireless Access Point Router. I had problems exactly like the ones you are describing when I first installed my WAN.

The other strong possibility is a firewall. If you have a firewall enabled you may need to open the ports on your firewall which AoE and the Zone use to play the game.

If you are using a fierwall, I can tell you now it's the problem. I had the exact same.

Edited for baffling typo

I am running Windows 98 SE.
Yes, I am using a Wireless Access Point Router that is also a firewall. I am going to see what I can do to disable the firewall and try again. Thanks for your help.

It is the WAN that is your problem. Games from the Zone require a constant IP. The Router has assumed the constant IP and the PC where the game is running is receiving internet signals from the Router via randomly assigned addresses.

Lots of good information at

http://www.puffinsoft.com/

There is a forum there where most of the various configurations have been discussed. I found my solution there.
