I want to know something. Why is this forum of AoE folks, old friends of the game, not embracing AoM?

I downloaded the AoM demo. Didn't work on my desktop, but did on my laptop. And what I see of it on my laptop is beautiful.

I've not bought the game. Good grief, I have yet to master AoE/RoR. But I want to know what is the silence here regarding AoM about?

Now I did not like AoK. Huge buildings, etc. Is AoM just another overblown AoE like AoK was?

So where does everyone here stand regarding AoM?

Sara

Me, I have AoM and it is quite fun, though I must say the way they do the pop limit is annoying.

I've downloaded the Demo of AoM yesterday, and it was quite fun to play, especially as there were 2 random map to play with.

Unfortunately, it lacked the realism AoE/RoR possessed... at least infinite fishing and farming is something I really loved...

Athena looked really cool as well...

Age game population limits are too small, in my opinion. With a requirement of at least 70-80 villagers, and some men to defend your own base, and with resource limitations, the largest battles you can have are pretty much restricted to 50 units each if you're lucky. And that is AoE II. AoE? 50 units, the largest battles you can have a positively street fights. I ditched Age games once I found Cossacks. AoM impresses me none either.

Hmmm... I still prefer AoE over AoM, all becasue of the wierd sense of realism it possessed - although Gaiseric is right - the population limit is just far too small...

Yes, the pop limit is very often too small. But be thankful it's not Warcraft 3! That one has a limit of 90, I think, and units take up multiple spots.

It depends really - in many SP scenarios the low pop limit is hardly a problem. It's true that it's unrealistic in battle scenarios but oh well.

I disagree. A great example of using little over 50 units but making a great battle is Alexanders Conquest of Egypt.

Ah... but I think that would be because the Egyptians forgot to upgrade their priests, and Alexander's troops were x4 resistance integrated troops.

But really, I wouldn't call 30 Chariot Archers a battle - that's more of a combat. Something like 170 of them would be nearer the mark...

I think AOM campaigns are much better than AOE.The cut-scenes and movies are far better than AOE.I really enjoy playing the AOM campaign.
But i also think the battles in AOE are better than AOM.You can see the battles clearer in AOE, even though we can only have 50 men.
Though the battles in AOM are more atmospheric.
And i agree about the pop of AOE, it's really annoying.

AoE pop limit is fine. Play AoM if you want pop limits higher, but dont whinge about it here.

EE lets you have 1200 units to split between as many players as you like, but there is also a mod for armies of 5000 if your machine can handle it without falling over.

Play each game for what it is already, not for what it isn't :-)

Precisely why I'm not going to bother to try to get either AoM or Warcraft 3.
