I assume you're referring to zone play. In that case...the pop limit will be whatever the host sets it to. So if you set it to 200 then it'll be 200 for all player in that game. Basically whoever hosts the game will determine the settings for every player in that game.

Hope that answers your question satisfactorily.

Hmm, i've never used a network connection to play like that. So i can't comment on that to be honest.

However the same rules regarding pop limits and other settings apply to all games regardless of connections, as far as i'm aware!

Age of Empires uses very little graphic capacity compared to newer games like Age of Kings and Mythology.

I can play 6 player games on the Zone with 200 pop limits and not have any lagging if everyone has good internet connections. 200 pop limit would be 1200 units if everone reached their pop limit.

I have played Rise of Rome on my network with coworkers over the years and we never have lag. Remember this game was designed to work with crappy 4 MB video cards, small 200 Mhz processors, small amounts of ram (64 MB max), and 56k modems.

I know there is a way to change the population limit for single play but it has been years since I have done it. If anybody knows how will you please let me know? I appreciate it very much.

Just get a decent, cheap 64mb AGP video card. You could probably find one for $25 through www.pricewatch.com . That should be enough of a card to use on a future upgrade cpu and still be able to use your 600. Besides, 600 mhz is more than enough for AOE. I'd say a Celeron 400 with 64mb of ram would be enough. I had a p3 600 myself, but only a 32mb video card. Only with lag would I have problems. I do know a P1-100 with 96mb of ram isn't enough to run AOE very well, I get problems with just a few units.
