Hi
Could anyone give me a good War Elephant/Elephant Archer strategy ? I don't have RoR, and I'll be playing against a novice. All help is appreciated.

Have a look in our multi player strategies section in the Academy, there are a couple, mainly linked to Persia since they have the best elephants.

Is this DM because otherwise it would be impossible.

In AoE, eles were very weak because of their slowness and armor. In AoE only Persia really could pull of a good ele strat and that only worked if YOU ATTACKED BEFORE 4 MINS.

Otherwise you will be facing helos/cats whihc IMHO waste Elephants.

Um, nope it's RM. Guess not than. Any ideas to incorporate eles into another strat?

I have an idea, but never try it. In fact, on paper it's seem very deadly (better with ROR, but we can imagine easyly the gigantic ressources we needed if we upgrade to scythe chariots and armored elephants);

You play Phenicians first, during the game, you scout the opponent city to look if he use priest. If yes, send a wave or two of chariots to exterminate priest and after a good wave of eles. (eles are cheaper with Phenicians)

Maybe you can make a combo chariots/eles/eles archers in the same attack. Just keep the eles behind the chariots to prevent some eles convertions.

Persian, Macedonians Carthaginian win to be use but remember that they are gold dependant. I'm a fan of Persian civ.

As you can see, this game(aoe/ror) is base on gathering ressources above everything. So if you are quick enough on this point, you probably win on many situations(RM games)!

Enjoy!!

Here is a list, which, IMHO, can pull of a good elephant strategy:- (Assuming you don't have RoR)

Persia - Very obvious. Fast elephants.

Phoenicians - Cheaper elephants.

Sumerians - This might seem like a wierd choice, since they don't get any bonuses for their elephants, but their double farm production is nothing to laugh at. If you decide to farm early (which, really, you shouldn't, unless you are in the middle of a forest with not much food source nearby), you'd have sufficient food to crank out elephants from 10 stables at a time. Sumerians are also good since they get the Chainmail upgrade.

And never forget to back elephants up with something else, and bring some Priests to heal them.

I've never really tried elephant strategies before, so I might, to an extent, be wrong. Comments welcomed - although constructive criticism though, please.

Heck... who can beat a Mithril Colossus Hoplite like I am one now...?

If I can add something to Iron Hoplite comment, the priest is also a must to re-convert your eles and a good opportunity to have more units in the fight by converting enemies units.

Thanks everyone. This weekend I just got RoR, btw. And yes,I am quick at gathering, I often steal all the gold off my dad's island (except the starting pile of course) before he can use it, and he almost always takes a gold-dependant civ.
