Has any checked to see if the peon farming rate of .40 improves through the ages or with the farming upgrades? I have noticed playing sumerian that i am producing tons of food quickly with 8 to 10 farms in Iron. I was wondering if it was Sumerain or just being in the Iron age? Does anyone have a good way to check this?

It was definitely the fact that it was Sumerian. The Sumerians have doubled farm production rate. Farm production won't increase throughout the ages (I don't think) unless you research domesticate, the plow and irrigation at the market.

the only civ with an actual farming bonus (i.e., an increase in the speed at which they get food) are the Palmyrans. Sumerians get twice as much food on a farm, but it takes them twice as long to get it, so the only advantages it gives them are (a) costs less wood to maintain farms (b) less likely to have idle farmers.

Hey Josh,
MrFixit's chart shows the gathering rate of a Summy peon is .4 just like everyone elses.
But 10 farms yield 4 food a second or 240 in a minute. Thats tons IMO. And those Summy farmers are just like the enegizer rabbit, they keep going and going....

Wait a second! Palmy gets a farming speed bonus? I kept hearing everyone state that Palmys gathering bonus did not effect Farms. Hmmmmmm. Time to do some research...although Im sure Sandy isnt wrong.

According to Blackdouglas's tests and a few others (I apologize if I forgot who else was saying that) palmy's bonus does not affect farming rates...I am too lazy to do tests so I will do what I normally do which is let someone else do all the work

I will guarantee that palmy farms at .45 while all others farm at .40 . And this test is off course trivially easy to do in the SB with the clock turned on. Too bad for palmy that they dont get the full +0.2 speed enhancement here. - neilkaz -
