This happen just before christmas. Finally I have a chance to play AoE against human opponent. We play it in our company network. We both choose Roman and map was large narrows. Game started peacefully. When I reach the Iron, I fail to build ships because I understand map type wrong. So, I build land units (mainly legions and catapults). When my opponent attack with huge fleet, I haven't much chance.
I made some counter attack with catapults but his helepolis army crushed them to firewood. I try to desperately defend my town but then wood resources expired.
I fight to the last man. After two hours fighting was over.

Later I analyzed game and discovered some mistakes I made:
- I fail to build ships ,ballistas and towers (ships were the key).
- I waste resources to build wrong units. Priests and legions were useless in this map type.
- Pop Limit was 100 but I play like it would be 50.
Other reasons:
- My buildings was near shore. This because my land area was quite narrow. His ships easily devastated my buildings.
- Lack of wood.
- My opponent has experience of playing against human.
It was real fun to play this game against human. I will have my revenge next time...
