I just bought Empire Earth over the weekend and I was curious to see if anyone else here has bought it. So far from what I have seen it is somewhat similar to Age of Empires. The graphics are phemonenal! The options are virtually endless for game play! I think that given some time this game could become as popular if not more so than the Age series games.
If any one else bought, let me know what you think of it. Or maybe we could play an on-line game sometime.

Don't ask me why but I didn't like EE.

The game itself was slow and gameplay was sluggish and tacky. The 3D graphics look really 2nd rate and the units are just too hard to understand. Then the civilisations have no originality, they're all too similar.

When I first played AoE I wanted to play it again and again. With EE I stopped after one go.

Still it might catch on...

I got it and I like it - lots of variety and lots of fun - there are things I don't like about it but so far there is enough to make me keep playing it. The patch to enable multiplayer on the sierra servers didn't work on mine, it stopped the game even running, so I can only play over IP. Apart from that it shows promise - and at least if people say what they want improved something will get done about it, unlike AOE.

So yes, I like EE, but my first love is ROR.

Hi devendra!

EE is out in many countries but it usually takes time for it to be released in some countries. I think it may be released in Asia post-Christmas time.

i got it. i like it, but i dont like it.

i like it cuz, well, um, its fun..

i dont like it cuz it takes a long time, too many counter-units you have to keep track of, all the civs seem the same, like, you can't look at a comptuer player and tell who it is like you could in aoe or aok.. and only one building scheme! ahhh thats the worse part!!!!

The first few ages are like Age Of Empires. There are game system improvements over AoE (rally points, multiple unit creation queues, formations etc.) but over all I have the same reaction to this part of EE that I have to RoR and AoK. I like the original better.

The next few ages are like Age of Kings. I tried that game and never much liked it. I like the original better.

The next few ages seem much like Close Combat except for some resource gathering still going on in the background. I have played Close Combat and actually like it a little bit. I like AoE more.

The last few ages . . . I never played much Starcraft but this part of EE seems like Starcraft to me. I like AoE better.

Multiplayer has been, at least for me, to this point a nightmare. Server hassles, game lag, trolls . . .

So, in a nutshell, EE is ambitious, maybe too ambitious. I like the game and will probably play it a fair amount. It has something for nearly everyone. But for this old school AoE player, it is still not as good as the original and AoE is the game that I play when I go on the net looking for fun. See you all in Plains.

Well, I got through the learning scenarios and tried my very first random map death match against the computer. I thought that I would try Digital age because I really like the F-96 Talon unit. I still don't know what hit me! The computer came in and lasered the heck outta my town and before I knew it I was done! I had the computer on easy too! This is much harder than AOE computer!
Rise of Rome is still my favorite game and I guess it always will be !

EE has tried to copy all the other RTS themes and do something new. But to me they've messed up big time.

The number of counter units is stupid. The 3D mode is awful. Even when you want to watch a battle you can't as trees and walls usually ruin effects.

The civ idea is the biggest flaw in the whole game. Giving everyone the same tile set is so confusing and the fact everyone has a full tech tree only makes keeping track of units worse. And this 'civ bonuses' and 'civ points' has just destroyed all the meaning of using civs. Civ bonuses do nothing major and custom civs literally means no one uses the preset civs as you always want to tune your own civ.

Another problem is how slow the SE is. It took me 5 mins to save a scenario with just 1 player and DM resources so I could practice DM.

I could rant on for days but I won't. EE is just not the smae game as AoE. AoK I could just about stand. But after playing EE for 1 week, it's lost in my CD case.

I agree with you Centy. It's not the game I expected it to be.

Well I dunno - the more I play it the more I appreciate it for what it is. With such massive scope the faults are going to be many, and they are there - here are a few of my gripes with it so far;

- Israel and America are the most powerful predefined civs, they have more bonuses than anyone else.

- You can define your own civ and spend points on whatever bonuses you want but you will never have as many as any of the defined civs, which seems a bit unfair.

- Games take FOREVER to play. A typical RM game can keep you playing for hours unless you get a quick rush in, and the AI is made hard by giving it stupid amounts of resources - I know it's more difficult to write a smarter enemy but they went too far - in AOE the CP cheats on hardest, but in EE it's worse than that on easy.

- The English accents are not too bad, they still sound like an American trying to be British but they are passable, and some in fact are quite good. However, the French, German and Russian accents in the campaigns are APPALLING! They sound like they came from someone who was brought up on a diet of old war movies - bad ones. I'd probably be more offended if I didn't wet myself every time I hear them ;-)

- Some of the scenarios are just tedious. Restricting certain techs etc to make a given scenario more challenging is a tried and tested method of providing a good fight, but there are times when the linear direction and deliberate restrictions made them a chore to play when they should have been fun.

However the most annoying ones at the moment are

- The game's habit of kicking out to the desktop whenever it feels like it. It's as stable as a centipede on ice skates.

- The fact that as soon as you buy the game you are expected to download a patch so you can play online. Except when I downloaded the patch and installed it, it stopped the game running at all. I know I said this before but it's pretty major - It's lame enough when you spend even more time downloading a patch for a game you have just spent a lot of your hard earned cash on because they couldn't get it right in time, but then when it doesn't work...

But when the bloody thing does work it is pretty fun and addictive. And the potential for scenario design is immense. It's a more complex game and I think that has lost a lot of the audience, narrowed the fan base too much by specialising in all the things die hard fans said they wanted. You can't just be a casual player like you can with AOE, you can't just dip in for a quick game to relax. But if you want a good involving game with lots of variety and options that is fun and addictive in its own way, then EE is the game.

Have to say though that so far ROR is king and not even EE touches it.

Phill: That's my problem with EE. You just can't relax and have a quick game.

Also the pre-defined civs usually never use all 100 points and the bonus are so small in some places it doesn't even matter. Besides, a custom civ suits you perfectly. For example if your strat is AT guns and Cybers then you can put all the bonuses on those rather than waste them on ships when you have no sea.
