Nothing happened to it. I still have a head full of ideas, but apparently it's not going to happen, at least until I get around to writing my own RTS.

I wouldn't mind if we started up yet another 'balancing RoR' thread... or one to design another RTS, but in the same timeperiod and thus with mostly similar units.

hmm. well, me and ace (combat villager) are making an rts right now.

we've begun coding. ace coded the movement script... but... right now you can't walk up and down hills. so until we get that settled, there are no hills on the maps. i've coded the units, but i'll prolly have to re-code them due to some re-designs.

i've made some buildings as well...

Depending on the bonus spearmen get vs cavalry, it looks like either dwarf swordsmen or human heavy cavalry will dominate.

My initial thoughts, add javelinmen as archer-killers. Spearmen vs swordsmen, knights. Swordsmen vs knights, javelinmen. Knights vs javelinmen, archers. Javelinmen vs spearmen, archers. Archers vs spearmen, swordsmen. Every unit kills two others, and can be countered by two others. It can all be done with the same stats and combat system as AoE and no bonuses needed.
 
You could have a missing unit for each civ, and the unit names could change. Civ bonuses have to be balanced carefully too, or some civs might be almost *gasp* useless! (greek in RM)
