Blitz, Basic and Me (not me, him, oh forget it
Civs were Phoeny, Greek, Roman respectively. Opponents were Hittite x 2 and Minoan. Some good matchups for a random civ start.
Anyway everyone had the usual start. The docks were going up by about 6 mins I believe. Everyone has the same pattern hit the shore and start laying them docks out until you run into resistance. Blitz got a couple of his right in front of greens town who was next to him. Boats are out and everybody seemed on an even footing except for basic, who was really B*tchin about pulling Greek. Blitz and green must have tooled within seconds of each other (missed the times and actually I never checked achievements duriong the game so I don't have numbers or times) because the scout ships came out almost at the same time.Blitz nicely outboomed green on scout ships and used his superior numbers to force green basically off the water. Now somewhere around this point Green resigned having lost his FB's to Blitz. This was a bad mistake on his part as red was still giving Blitz a hard time with his hittite galleys but Blitz had control. Green had not even attempted to infiltrate Blitz's town which was wholly undefended except for a scout or two I believe. So Green basically screwed his partners as I see it. His economy was hurt but still viable by a long ways. Without Green to worry about blitz could basically carry on his boom for the famous Blitz massed chariot archer attack. Red did manage to eventually get some chariots into Blitz's woodies but Blitz coolly boned one or two to death and then moved his woodies and pumped a few of his own CA's to beat off red's stonies and CA's. Maybe a little more pressure by red could have made a difference here but he did't have enough ranges close to Blitz to really pump the CA's. Meanwhile Basic was still B*tchin about his start and Greeks in general, even though he had nicely forward built on the Minoan and was pestering him in a big way. I thought the Minoan would go down fairly quickly but because of Basics lack of enthusiam and Browns never say die attitude it was a stalemate. In fact Blitz and his partner had to hunt down the Mino's last Vill in order to finish the game. The Roman on Blitzs team meanwhile, was in the pocket and boomed without trouble which pretty well meant the end of the game once green had resigned. Both opponents fought well to make it interesting though. One interesting thing though. This was a Standard victory condition. And I'm not sure the other guys knew it. Anyway a good game. I think I know Blitz''s style a bit better. You seem to like to lay low on the land battles until you are ready or someone forces your hand. Fight him on the water but fight him on land too if you want to beat him. It won't be easy either way. He's a cool cucumber on the battlefield. Just as you got control Blitz, red started hitting you hard with galleys. But you stayed with him nicely not losing too many FB's before getting your own galleys. You seem to always be right on the edge of food and wood too. Nice going.
Had I been them, Minoan and Hittite, I would have gone right to plan B once Green resigned. Build a wonder and steal the game!!!. This is really the best way to finish a match like this, IMO. It would have been a hectic and exciting finish to the game where the ending is in doubt until the last click of the wonder. People who think wonder games are for wimps should think again! It is heart pounding excitement for both sides!
