Okay this topic is all about DM. When you look at the ROR rooms you see more in the Rookie rooms than the DM rooms but when you check the Rookie room over half the games are DM. So what do you think make DM so much fun because I'm hooked.

DM's are usually faster paced and more of a military based-rather than an economy based RM game. Having said that though, many of the "expert" DM'ers know the importance of an economy and typically have villager highs close to or over 100.

Most often, DM'ers don't worry about resource management for the first several minutes in the game. That is a large role of RM and it takes a lot of thought and skill managing a small economy.

Also there is less of a talent gap between players because there are less decisions to make in the game. In DM's you start off in Iron, and usually start attacking with Super Units of Armored Eles, Balista Towers, Heavy Cats, and Helepolis. Building patterns are important, but not so much as RM's.

In RM's you must get good economies in Stone, defend and attack in Tool and Bronze while still growing your economies. Super units like Heavy Cats and Armored Eles never really play a role in determining the outcome of an RM game.

Personally I think RM's are a lot more fun because they require a lot more skill. RM'ers typically make great DM'ers when they make that transition. The same can't be said about a DM'er going into the RM world.

Well I know I'll get flamed for this but I think it has something to do with the average age of the typical RoR player. Nothing wrong with DM's. I have played a few in my day. But they are all about cranking maximum numbers of super units and steamrolling your enemy. If you start in Iron there is even less strategy.

For the under 15 crowd "killin things" is what the game is all about. And Iron DM gets you right to the "killin".
Plus they can probably get about 2 or 3 games in by playing at 2.0 speed where the average RM gamer might be lucky to get 1 game finished in the same amount of time.

You are right Noble. Last time I skulked on the Zone a few weeks ago, all I really saw were DM games outnumbering random games probably 5 to one. Sure is hard for an average RM player to find a game these days.

Don't worry Boneser, this isn't OD in AoKH.

You do have a point. Most people playing nowadays are teenagers who don't appreciate the economy and only care about huge armies and killing things.

But in DM, your food and gold run dry if you are not careful and many people I play just resign when they run out of gold.

It was just a comment that teenagers seem to prefer DM games. And it's my "guess" that a lot of zone players fall in that age group.

It seems to me that there are enough people playing DM that they should be in their own room.

Its not a problem unless you are trying to find a decent RM game that isn't speed jacked, reveal map, no priests, no rushing, no fast civs, high resources, blah blah blah.

I have to admit after logging on the zone a few times recently, its pretty hard to find any kind of decent RM game. They are there but its such a pain in the ass, that I usually just give up and play against the comp.
