Yay, I'm back from Germany and I really enjoyed the trip even though I never bumped into Ingo.

Anyway to get back to the forums I was just thinking who has played a DM from Stone? I mean, think of all the choices:

Do you rush into Iron and risk being rushing by 50 CAs or do you launch a huge broadie attack?

I personally would hold out in Bronze with STs and then unleash elephants as soon as I hit Iron.

Welcome back

I've never played a DM from Stone, it does seem like a good idea *jokingly imagines 50 clubbers rushing the Bronze Age AI*

I remember playing a DM starting in stone.

I rushed to iron using my starting 3 villagers and reached iron around 10 minutes then attacked with 10-20 war elephants and the other guy was in bronze with some 50 chariots goodbye chariots.

I may have been playing with a newbie but I have never wanted to play one again because I found that game a waste of my time but it does hold some good possibilities in having a thriling game from the stone age all the way until post iron.

I haven't played it in a while, but usually i go lots of rax and clubbers early to search for vills (kill tc if possible), axers and scouts in tool again to kill vills. In Bronze you make a choice - if there are still a lot of axers/infantry go for cavalry (and UPGRADE them!), if there are a lot of horses go with camels. Also remember to get all your upgrades from double SP and towers from granary, upgrades make a huge difference in the battles. Once hitting bronze drop GC, get nobiltiy and multiple TCs to start pumping out vills. If you're Roman or Cho you can go broads, otherwise use your stables more. If archery civ you can start planting down archery ranges. CA take too long to research to be too powerful in stone start. You need what, 1:40 to research wheel, and another 40s to make one CA? Good stone start player is halfway to Iron by then...towers also are good vs. CA...ST take a long time to build. With the map covered by cavs and rax units, they aren't going to do a whole lot of good until they become cats anyway. With the elephant thing, if your opponent is aggressive than you won't have food for many of them because you'll be spending it defending/building vills.

Anyway when you play stone start, remember your 2 objectives (I read this at SD's dm site, when it existed):

1. Slow/prevent your opponent from advancing ages (aka build big military to harass/kill builders)
2. Advance to Iron ASAP.
