A whopping 12% if I remember correctly. Not a chance of competing with Minoan in early sea battles.

thats what youd think... but veing a phoe player (untill the patch came out) i know they dont stand up to yammy, mino, or hittite... you also gotto look at there military, they have very poor ground units

The phoenie wood bonuses are the following in RoR post-patch (according to MrFixit's site):
1. +0.05 raw wood gathering rate
2. +3 carrying capacity
The extra carrying capacity doesn't actually help much with 40w trees, since the number of trips is the same (except for a little while between woodworking and artisanship).
Therefore the real wood improvement in each age (assuming 5 tile walk) is the following:
Stone - +5.8%
Tool - +13.0%
Bronze - +2.9%
Phoenie also gets no other bonuses until iron age aside from their wide bronze tech tree.
In comparison, palmy gets no carrying capacity bonus but gets +0.20% raw gathering rate.
Stone - +21.3%
Tool - +25.3%
Bronze - +5.8%
Palmy also gets +0.20 raw gathering rate for shorefish (+26% @ 5 tiles), berries (+44%), hunting (+30% @ 5 tiles), gold (+44%) and stone (+44%). They also get +0.05 for farming, which with no walking translates to about +12.5%. On top of that, their iron tech tree is noticeably better and their gold trading bonus is great for a civ with HHAs.

ya, I was thinking about phonies bronze army...very diverse but no bonuses except slightly easier to produce chariots due to wood bonus. Also I've tried against the cpu with palmy but can't get a good start any good strats for phonie???

I have no strats that would work well with a neutered phoenie.
The only thing with palmy is you need food *fast*. You have to *jump* on the first food source you see, it doesn't matter whether it's berries or hunting or SF. Once you have 6 villies on food (or 4 on SF), you can merrily start a boat boom with the best woodcutters in the game.
