AOE GUIDE TO RUSHES (Part 1, Stone and Tool)
STONE AGE RUSHING
Stone age rushes are fairly uncommon, because of a few reasons
- In multiplayer games many opponents do not allow rushes till about 20 or 30 mins, when they are well into the bronze age or iron age.
-By time you build an army, your opponent will be far ahead in terms of technology, and clubmen will be no help against their archers and axemen.
-As above, clubmen are the only military unit available.
It is advisable not to attack in the stone age!
TOOL RUSHES
ARCHERS- Fairly common, players tend to send hordes of bowmen into the enemy base and destroy all of the helpless villagers. This can be very effective, unless the defender happens to have built watch towers. Assyrians have fast archer fire, and the Hittie archers have more attack power. DON'T put any top tool units in defence for long, because when you go to bronze they'll be useless as they cannot be upgraded.
AXE MEN- When mixed with archers, these are hard to defend. Don't attack with clubmen, but build 2 barracks and loads of club men.(remenber to build houses!) Upgrade to axemen after about 6 clubmen are formed. You can research +2 attack and +2 armour in the storage pit, which is advisable. If you dont have enough food, try a civ like Sumerian and make lots of farms, as they have x2 farm production, so don't splash out on Domestication (Its a waste of 200 food) make 4 axemen instead. Make a few bowmen to go with them, but remember to worry about the guard towers.
SCOUTS- Scouts are not meant for attacking the enemy, so you won't get far if you try. They are also expensive (100 food). It is reccomended, however, that you send one to run around in the enemy base to see what they've got and then run away again or distract the guard towers while your axemen and bowmen demolish them.
VILLAGERS- Why the hell would anyone attack with villagers?? Well you can send them up behind the front line of attackers and once you finish off all of the enemy military you can put walls around (about 3 squares away from) their town centers so they cant get the villagers out(unless they've magically got siegecraft)HAHA! The villagers can also be used to attack buildings, once the defence are out of the way.
TOWERS- People have been known to put watch towers in enemy bases. It may sound silly, but a watch tower around berry bushes can easily foil the enemies food collection process. Once in the bronze age, they can be upgraded and they will surely keep those villagers away from that gold mine!
