Topic Subject:Are some campaign missions timed?

Hello. I'm fairly new to the AOE world, I downloaded some custom campaigns recently off of here. One of them needs watchtowers to win a scenario but there isn't any stone on the map. I am used to playing Caesar and Pharaoh/Cleo type games and sometimes you have to wait for a diplomatic contact to have the ability to trade some items, does that occur in AOE? I contacted the person who made the campaign, but they had submitted it quite a while ago and were no longer at that E-mail address. Thanks to anyone for your help and info.

You can always trade for gold on a map with water, provided other civilizations have docks.
As to the campaign you refer to, it might help if you tell what the title is. Sometimes you have to look for stone or gold pretty long. But if you're very sure that there isn't any - cool.

Welcome here btw, hope you're going to enjoy playing AOE and jioning this forum.

Welcome...peter is right. Give us the title and one of us will get to the bottom of it.

As has been said, you can only trade using trade boats and docks - you can only trade for gold, not stone or food or wood, but you can trade any other resource for gold. Diplomacy only affects the issue in that if you trade with enemy docks you risk being blown away while doing so.

Timing - No, not in the way you mean. Some games are created with a time limit, so you are against the clock to complete them - some people like the sense of urgency that gives, but in my experience if the time limit is mixed with other victory conditions some of them don't always work or can be circumnavigated i.e. it is sometimes possible to win without achieving all the VCs. Timing is also used for other things, though, like deciding how long it is before a CP attacks or asks for tribute, like that.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but does he give you any stone to start with? He may have given you just enough so that if you use any for walls instead you can't win. It's a sneaky trick but I love it - as with any scenario where you have to play it a few times before you crack it.
