I've noticed some stuff about this unit:

*No Line Of Sight (will dissappar in the fog)
*Only attacks if it belongs to Player 1
*Does get (infantry) Bronze, Iron, and Tower Shileds...

Now alittle history...

*Many armies used mersonaries, for example: some places in the world used Libian Archers, Corsican Slingers, Macedonian Pikemen, Armenian Horse Archers, Belgian Slingers and many others...

Feel free to talk about mersonaries in history, or the unit, or sould people put mersonaries in senarios?

The Mercenary (spelling! )

The attack anything for P1 but only buildings for everyone else.

No line of sight = great in scenarios (like blind priests).

Infantry upgrades to reflect a necenary can be any type of unit.

In fact it is having no line of sight that is the reason why you have to be right on top of them, but they will attack anything that comes close enough, not just buildings.

Oh, okay Mersenary...

They will attack player one if they are someone else(player 2...), but they cannot do any harm...

(kinda funny seeing a bronze P1 cav slaghter 4 P2 mersonaries.)

I reken you could use them for lost reconisince scouts... but that's too much like Gaia.

I wonder if they are good agianst seige...

I've never been able to spell, and I use commas too much. I've had spelling lessons since the first grade, as of now- they still don't do me any good. My syntax needs work- but I type like I talk.

SL:

The mercenary is a unit in the scenario editor - you cannot make one 'in-game' as it were, they must be placed in a scenario as must other special units like Cleo Barges and Zenobia Towers. And as CC said, the only two things about them are;

1) They have no LOS so they vanish into fog.

2) If they belong to any player apart from player 1, they will attack but they don't do any damage.

Phill:

Thanks for the info. I very rarely open up the SE for anything other than running some sort of test. I don't have the knack for it.

I think... BtW a "Hero 12" unit (you can download from te download section) is the same HP wise- as a Mersonary...

Mercenaries have no sight, which means you should keep them selected if your not in the mood to search for them. This also means that they can track down an enemy no matter what. If you send them to attack a building, when they get to it, you can see a faded image of the building. By the way, they will attack if not controlled by player one.

I think that if they belong to P1, they only attack if there is another unit with them..or something like that.

The LoS for the Mace mersonary is, of course, a bug.

Peter: I Know That!

Phoenix : I Rarely Ever See Computer Mercanies Attack, Expect in TY Freeborn's Campaign Prophecty of the first king - Maybe They Attack When They are Macedonian I'll look that up.

And On Hero 12 it has the exact same attrabutes as Hero Jason and they are in the same mission, on two different sides.

Makes no difference - settings for the civ override it - and credit where it is due for spotting it, Daniel.

It could make for interesting ideas for scenarios - couple that with the microscopic map on our site and we have a new and interesting situation to play ;-)

As to them attacking, I used them in scn 2 of Ronin and noticed that they attack and damage other units but don't hurt the chariots you find. Hmmm - looks like us smartarses don't know everything about the game yet - and after all this time too, rofl ;-)

Phil, Macedonian Mersonaries Can attack and Do Damage, I Tested this out myself

Also, It seems that the great designers knew about this, In Scenario 2 of Budonian Tales at the Beggining you get swarmed by macedonian Mersonaries and get battered as well as heavy cavarly and a few other units.

Cool. There are some units they don't hurt at all though, I don't know if that works every time.

Um Mecenaries seem to attack buildings all the same regardless of Player and if they are attacking with another unit they add attack...

I don't think mecenaries LoS is a bug. It's like BLPs. Also I think its clever that thye only add attack to units they are attacking with...

The zero LoS for mercenaries isn't a bug of course - the 2 LoS for Mace ones is a bug however - that's what I meant. They simply forgot to make an exception for the mercenaries. Just like they forgot to disable the free tribute for Palmy in full tech tree games and so on.

Maybe the Mercenary LOS bug isnt realy a bug because it may be like a someone hired for work in your civ. So it will stay loyal if it has other units near it but it does it own thing when not with company from the more loyal people. Correct me if im wrong.
