A few random map types (like medit, hillz, etc) I'd like to see added:

1. Constantinople - Water on opposite sides, land in the middle separated by a river with a few passes. Resources comparable to medit or conti, but with about twice as much gold and stone.
2. River delta - Water at one end of a wide river splitting the map in two, many passes all along said river. Somewhat like hills resource-wise, with lots of extra food (berries, sf) near the river.
3. Steppes - Land with a lot of little hills and a few unconnected lakes. Fair amount of trees but only in small scattered clumps (maybe 20-30 trees per clump) instead of huge forests. Average gold and stone. Only one berry patch per player but *lots* of animals, especially gazelles. Think about 5-6 packs (20-24 individual) gazelles per player.
4. Jungle - Land with lots of scattered trees (about as many trees as on medit but spread out to cover everything). Some lakes and rivers, about halfway between inland and narrows for water. Enough berry patches and animals to last clear into the iron age.
5. Rift - Very hilly land map, with cliffs and everything. Lots of animals and berries, and about 4-5 times normal stone. Not much wood (like hillz), and precious little gold.
6. Middle Island - Large island in the middle of the map like conti, but the water around it is only a river about 5-10 tiles wide, with land on the outside like medit. Only 2-3 passes connect them. Spots 1-4 are on the center island, spots 5-8 are outside. Resources on the island are comparable to conti, and about as much total resources on the 'doughnut'. A few ruins on the island can spice things up for standard victory conditions.
7. Mountain Fort - Like middle island, but with cliffs instead of water and again only a few places that connect.

A story fort Wedsaz:

Wedsaz is sitting at a computer in an internet café in a city in North Africa playing Urmud. In comes this pale blonde lady that he hasn't seen for a long time. She walks up to him; it's hard to say who's more surprised at this meeting.
She looks at the screen, frowns, says: 'Play it, Wedsaz.' Wedsaz looks stricken, then says he doesn't understand what she means. She just stares back then says 'play it.'
Wedsaz: 'The boss here doesn't allow it.'
She just looks, says 'Play it' again.
Wedsaz: 'I've forgotten how to play it.'
She says: 'I'll show you.'
Sits down at the computer next to Wedsaz', finds the AOE CD, inserts it and starts a game.
Wedsaz sits looking on, then after a while takes second player.

---

Some of your map ideas are nice - but I wonder how you want to implement the delt bit if there are many players.

Hi,

These map (Wedsaz maps) are surely interesting like 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 2.

I have some Ideas, but I admit that we can make scns with it:

- "maze of cliffs" (2-4 players) every players where at each corners of the map, have tons of ressources to gather and the rest of the map is a big Maze made with cliffs. So it mean that if somebody want to attack somebody else, he have to enter this maze before. Nice for embush of all kind.

- "Siege" or "choose your weapons" (2 players, you can choose if you play it in bronze age or Iron age)

At the start you have 12 house(enough for the pop limit of 50), and a military building for each kind of units, plus a temple. You have just enough ressources in your pocket for 50 units, (we can have more ppl with Logistic)

The enemy has a fortress. So you create your units and go to find 'em and attack 'em.

- "Nile" (surely demand a mega extra gigantic map.)

On this map we find the players at the north of the map. At the north of 'em we find a part of the Mediteranean sea.

These map was split in two cos the Nile (north to the south)
Near of the water ppl have place to build farms, get berries and hunting. In the Nile you can fishing but you don't have tons of fishs. Far the Nile you don't have place to build. But you can find a little bit of stone and gold and tons of wood.

The goal of this map is to build a Wonder. But players have to win to control of the Nile with a big fleet and protect the villis cos they are farming near the shores. It's a map where trading is very important. At the south of the map we can find a island with plenty of stone and a little bit of gold(A big hill, no possibility to build a forum or a storage pit there).

player have to send villis by transport to this Island to mining stone and gold and embark 'em again in the boat to return to the town to put the ressources in a storege pit.

-"Empires" (again a mega extra gigantic map) You have a geographic map of including North Africa, Europe and Asia.
With respective civs on it.

-"Mediteranean" Yes,...not a "big lake" in the middle of the map with two way to go to your opponent by walkin on land.

Just one way to go by feet, not two.

-"Random terrains" it's not a map, but give you randomly a map among the available ones.

See ya!!

Swamp - Like Highland only there are a lot of shallow rivers.

Cliff Maze - Speaks for itself.

Savannah - Lots of grass, scattered trees but not forests. The odd water. Completely flat, littered with lions, gazelle and elephants.

Actually, it looks like I may be working at an internet cafe soon, and if so I may be able to play again! (online, too!) Oh btw, if you saw the weather here in canada this time of year, I think you'd agree it's not at all like north africa.

The map size has to match the number of players, obviously. The delta would just be water on one edge and a simple river between the two teams on small maps, only expanding to a delta+river in bigger maps.

Dark_Avenger:
Actually they were meant more for huge or gigantic 3v3s, which is what I mostly used to play in RoR.

CenturionZ_1:
Swamp - how exactly is it different from narrows?
Savannah - that was my original idea with the "steppes" map, but I switched area since there weren't many large empires on the savannah, while the steppes had a major impact on ancient history.

O Canada, our home and native land.
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The true north strong and free.
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land
Glorious and free.
O Canada we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Please pardon any spelling errors as I have never seen the lyrics printed. I learned the words from hearing the anthem at hockey games.

But back to the topic at hand, you could call the "steppes" map the Ontario map. And instead of "Nile" the Saint Lawrence. And a tiny map where you would recreate the conditions of the Battle of Mont Real. River and cliffs and stuff.

Now back to our musical program . . .

Your movie knowledge is rusty too - I referred to Casablanca (Play it, Sam)

Damn! I should have seen that. If you had mentioned a fedora, I probably would have guessed right away.

Vancouver, about as close to silicon valley as I could get without crossing the border.

Coastal Mountains:

The Map is divided by a broken mountain range - broken by rivers. On one side, the plains run down to the sea, on the other, the elevation increases - maybe some forests.
