There's a link to a site entirely about the AOE Trial Version in the Towncenter under fan sites if I remember correctly. I visited it some time ago - it had even a walkthrough for the campaigns. But the link is dead now - anyone knows if it's moved or simply died?

Here's what I could find searching on yahoo:
You can download AoE trial here:
Nate's AoE Trial page:

I think there used to be an AoE trial site by ogr or something like that, couldn't find it.

The Trial Version is just so wonderful. Great music. And those Hittites! I love it!

And you all know it was created AFTER the retail version was!

Never found a walk through. But the Reign of the Hittites is a good tutorial. And fun.

What I'd love to see is a walk through for the 2nd scenario of the Trial Version of Rise of Rome, The First Punic War. (Peter groans... I can hear it...)

OK,Flawless Angel,

Maybe you passed it and uninstalled it.

Still, that music is pretty haunting, and it's not on the retail. And that Hittite scenario "Opening Moves" is always fun. (Two Holy Men going forward...)

Now, I have a question. Did you pass and uninstall the RoR Trial? Come on, did you win the 2nd and 3rd Scenario???

Hi Sara, tell me, you win the 2nd scn(ROR demo)??
If not, tell me about your gameplay(what you do in this scn).

So, I'm always nostalgic about the demos cpn(AOE & ROR) and I keep them.

I have win all these scn, so if you need help, call me or Peter.

see you later!!

I have NEVER won the 2nd scenario in RoR Trial (First Punic War.)

Peter has given my some good ideas, but I can't seem to pull off a victory.

Love sea battles.

But hate getting blown up.

Or having my prize war elephant converted.

Or losing a transport that's loaded with militia.

Still, I love the scenario, and I keep going back for more.

I admire your spirit.

Hi Sara,

Never raising the white flag is the good choice you have choose!!!

Defeats gives lessons to learn. So, I think you gonna win step by step practicing and playing!

Experiment, try new tactics, if you lose some units; it's life. Today's peoples say that soldiers are foods for guns, pawns on a chest board or else(it's the same with this game), while the commanders(generals) are well secure in a bunker or shelter...
Be as one of these commander or generals.

You are the commander, you lead your troops...
War means sacrifice, Some say war is an art, it's also a state of mind(spirit),if you lose some units, create others units...
they are there to serve you, nothing else. They are your tools to lead you to victory. Know your tools, the good and the weak of each, also, the best way to use them.

-Have a good econ(you need this for an army, it's like this today too). it's also your security and your expansion.

-learn of your defeats

-have a military spirit(mind).(sometimes, it's the best when nothing seems to help you)

-re-read all the hints about this scn(the topics in this forum).

-start the game and say:"today the 2 relics(artifacts) was mine!!!"

See you later!

Well, Dark_Avenger,

I did say to myself "Those two relics are mine!"

Didn't work out quite that way. Took a transport over to the yellow loaded with 2 priests (with extra vision), archer elephant, cavalry, other stuff.

And I did play a bit with my Triremes going back and forth and destroyed one of their heavy catapults. But only one.

Other one got my transport and all my good stuff that was inside.

HOWEVER, I somehow came around on the other side of the island with some Triremes,(I had built two docks,) and for the FIRST time I actually SAW the relic/artifact.

Now I at least know where it is.

Let's don't talk about the Red yet...

You're getting closer. But it's clear that you are too slow. It's tricky, I know, but you must try to keep all catapults busy before you bring your transport ship close. You can sacrifice a few triremes - you got enough wood.
As soon as you landed, move your units away.
Try to play it at normal speed, then everything is slower and you have a better chance of getting around the catapults.

Congratulation Sara!!

You sacrifice some units but discover the first relic!.

I have said everything about the yellows and the reds with the hints I give to you in this topic(Maybe now you understand why I say this, or why I say that...). Re-read it if you need.

Enjoy, you're on the good way!

see you later!
