Ahh, I am to blame too. Not been posting for a long while, not that I posted that much even then!
But I love this forum, and I guess that we all have to make an effort to ensure it doesn't wither and die.

My best game..... well it might be slightly differnt to the normal war story. The best game I EVER had was the one where I met my current girlfriend. Yes we met on the Zone!!!!!!!! That was well over a year ago, and I was only an intermediate player then. I was having a tough 3v3 game, and had lost all my peons but one.
I was kidding around and saying "Hmm, unless I am careful i might lose this game". I guess she found that funny, and we became zone buddies. Of course she couldn't resist my charms.......
My online name then was KoH_Yorky (now Dico_Yorky) and hers was RFR_girl (now Dico_Angel). Grrr - she still often beats me still! Even though she SAYS she loves me!

Well, I live in Scotland, she lives in Sweden, and I plan onmoving there ASAP. Looks like we're gonna have a baby next year too! :-)))

So I found my girl, and happiness, all thanks to RoR!
Beat that!!

God i never thought I'd be grateful to Microsoft for anything either.

point this way also

i've been away for a while.. school, and laziness

and my best game... well, me and a friend were playing this guy, that claimed to be a SUPER EXPERT.. he wasn't.. he was a cheater!!!

the kid comes over to my base with Photon Men, and goes to my friends' base with some Bigdaddy's. we kill his little army of cheats.. but he has a huge flock of Bigdaddies on the way. so my friend comes to my base, and takes over there.. and i rish up by his base (luckily he didn't see me do this), and i build an army of like 150+ legions.. and rush into his city.. all he has is houses, farms, a few stables, and a town center.. so i whipe out his "city".. and my friend is holding off the Bigdaddies (i have no clue how!), so i come from behind.. the same way the kid went into my base right behind him, and whipe out the Bigdaddies, with the help of my friend. but then.. a HUGE mass of war elephants comes... but with our towers, and legions.. we kill them, no problem..

well, we played a cheater, and won. hahahahaha

I played somebody once, I was mino and I think he was yammy... everything was going well, I was in bronze and had compies...

Then along comes this nuke trooper and laser trooper, and they start shooting up my town! I'm panicking, "holy crap"! I run my villies all over the map, building new TCs...

As I notice he only seems to have those 2, a thought crosses my mind... nuke troopers aren't any more resistant to conversion than any other unit. I built like 10 temples and started pumping priests, even though they were crappy minoan ones. By now he had split his troopers, the laster trooper was shooting at a TC near my temples... so I came with my horde of priests and started converting, he musta killed 20 of them but... I got the laser trooper! He apparently didn't notice, because I sneaked up to his nuke trooper and shot him with the laser trooper. Then I went towards his town with it, but also with lots of backup troops... he tried everything, attacking with cavs and compies, even priests to try and take back the laser trooper, but I didn't make the same mistakes, and won.

Turns out the (pre-made) map had those 2 troopers as gaia (reinforcement) units.

Anyway, goes to show anything can be beaten, and if your opponent feels invincible he's at his most vulnerable...

My best game happened just the other day, and it was one i lost to.
it was a 4v4, deathmatch, black forest.
if youve ever played BF then you know what the maps like, well, my spot was being shared by a enemy.
i was the celts, and as soon as i saw the bad guy next door to me, i started building barx's and making pikers. well, i soon saw that he had build 2 castles and some barx of his own above and next to me. so i made what units i could and set all my villagers to the ally closest to me. we walled up like mad. and then a few mins later the guy that killed me got droped.
so then it was 4v3....
well, i recovered as much as i could, but while doing this, our ally on the other end was being killed, so he moved back to me and the other guy...
we 4 held off the 3 guys for a while. but then our other ally had to move back with us!
well, we held back the 3 guys for about a hour and a half. then one of the bad guys droped.
so then it was 2v4!
we had no room, 4 people in one guys space....
but we made what we could and countered all their attacks.
after another 30 mins i was out of food and was only getting gold from trading. so i made monks, which wasnt bad caus' one of them was persain.
i healed everybody, converted elephants, the other guys used what they could.
we 4 held off for 3 and a half hours!!!
what mad the game really fun was, everyone playig had a sense of humor. the enemies had turned off ally chat near the end and were talking to us, none of us were yelling at eachother about space.(which is wierd caus' there wasnt room for a house).

that just goes to show ya that what makes a good game, the players.

This forum and aoe will never die. Long as the free aoe demo is out to addict new players to the majic.

Man what's with everyone and the AoE demo lately? It's not that great of a cpn. Try the Yamato Empire of the rising sun cpn in the FUll AoE. And if you have RoR the Expansion EoR cpn too. Now those are good cpn's. I adored those when I first got em, until I found out about Ingo, Imhotep, Gordon Farrell, Rich Parker, etc over here at AoEH now those are some fun cpns. Don't get stuck in the past.

The Yamato campaign is hm, okay, it's not really bad, but then again. Hm. The ROR campaigs are just plain bad - nevr bothered to finish most of them at easiest just because it takes forever to do so. That first Caesar scenario for instance - what's supposed to be so funny about that? Then Ingo's campaign. Great - but too hard for someone just beginning with the game. Most people say that the demo vampaigns are better playable than the retail ones.

ok? I thought it was the best one out of the bunch. I didn't like the Expansion cpns much eitehr, EXCEPT for EoR. That was a really good cpn. That and the Rise Of Rome one was real good too. Well their NOT beginners cpn, thats the thing. You have to be good first in order to play them with any ease. Play the Egypt Learning cpn first, then move onto the others.

I played the Egyptian learning campaign at hardest - except the wonder scen, that's ridiculous.
Yamato is tricky, but I finished that too. I thought the scenarios were meant to give an impression of the possibilities of the game - then think again about ROR.

I didn't mean you, I was refering to beginners who you said would have trouble with the retail cpns.
