By "quits", do you mean that the computer suddenly resigns?
If so, this is a known bug with the standard ship version of aok. You can go to the MS site and download a patch which fixes that bug.

I think that the bug where it just quits with no notice of any sort (happened in RoR) was connected to Windows98. Ever since i've had Win 2k Pro i've had no problems of that source. I highly reccomend win2k over 98, it's a huge improvement.

I used to have the same problem too. I was using a 300 mhz with 32mb of ram, piece of **** packard bell, and could hardly ever finish a game. About 5 months ago i bought a 600 mhz pentium III hp with 128 mb ram and haven't had a problem since. And if i remember correctly, aok needs 32 mb of ram so you wouldn't be able to play it anyway. (you said your system has 32 and you never have all of it available)
