Well, I've been playing around, trying to cut back on cheating and other silly things, and I've discovered mostly on my own (I seem to have lost the manual and big card thingy to the game) that Shang seem to kick ass early because of the low cost of villagers.
Does anyone have a link to or a handy reference on the subject of each civilization's (not in RoR but just plain ole AoE) idiosyncratic advantage, bonuses, things like this?

Yes, Shang are strong through early and even mid Bronze; for quickies, they're one of my favorites.
GX AoE at http://gamers.com/aoe has extensive articles on civ attributes, and usage of each to its fullest. They've also got a splendid strategy section. They haven't updated in many months, but this stuff isn't exactly new...

On the ROR CD is also a pdf file with the text of the manual - don't know if such a file is on the AOE CD do, but you can try. There are also many so-called strategy guides that are really copies of the documentation wih a few things added.

too bad most of the stuff on the cd is way out of date. My site has unit and civ stat sheets I think you will find very informative...they are the only ones I use now, I personally like them better even that Mr. Fixit's .pdfs.(for civ data anyway. I use mine and his for unit data) They are more concise and just as informative. Just click the link in my sig...it's in the articles section. You can also dll them for offline use (much better, because of all the little icons used) but that won't be available until I'm finished updating the site (going through some transitions right now)
