The first time you played AoE or RoR, what did you think? Yes, it could be the demo too.

What I thought:
I, a Caesar 3, Caesar 2, and Pharaoh battle harded vetran could esily wipe out the entire Roman army on thew map in the RoR demo--- or so I thought. After beating Caesar 2 and becoming emporer of Caesar 3 and building so many wonders in Pharaoh I thought I was ready.

The RoR demo:
I got to the final level, I think its the final. And you start in a Carthagian city in Bronze and on that same island is where Rome and her wonder are and on the other map it is Rome and her large navy. I quickly conquered the yellow across the sea and found the mersoniares and brought them back the the mainland. At this time I did not know that I could advance to Iron and did not even know how, but I made the best of Bronze before advancing to Iron later. I inhabited all of the land from the walls of Red Rome on my island to the island of Yellow Rome. Attept after attempt I never could destroy the Red Wonder not even with the catipults and mersoniaries, then I got the real game, in my own opinion the demo is better campaign wise than the game.

How did I find out about it?:
Many people on the C3 and Pharaoh forums play, played AoE and RoR allot and I figured I'd look around at the AoE heaven site, soon I started asking questions about like: Whats the differance between AoE and RoR, and is it as good a C3, which many said it was, and it was more of a differant type of game than C3, which is allot of building, compared to allot of war.

Whats your answer to these topics?

I first saw AOE at my brother's house. I never really played a strategy game yet, but when I saw it I was blown away. Although I really sucked, I liked it. When I finally got my hands on it for myself, I liked it even better. After a few months of AOE I found out about ROR. I checked out the demo and instantly wanted the game. When I got ROR I thought the levels could be designed better also but I still liked it. I still like to play AOE and ROR even with AOK around, because AOE is an epic game that will (in my opinion) live on forever.

heh, I was thinking "How can you possibly beat this thing without cheating, I can even beat the comp on easy!!!"

Then I learned how to play and started to think that it was an addictive game, hehe

I first played AOE with the demo. I decided to play the scenario "The battle of Kadesh". I had no idea how to play the game, and I was taken out by 1 bowman. I disliked it for a day, because I thought it was "hard", but I decided to play it again, but this time play the "showcase of war" scenario. I beat it, and from then on, I have been obsessed with AOE.

I downloaded the aoe demo and went straight to a multiplayer demo game. I played horrible, chariot archers came and killed my villies and clubman. I loved it! aoe is majic, no other game comes close.

I got the full aoe(next day?) and went to the multiplayer aoe plains. The first time enemy compies found my woodchoppers, I'll never forget. The compies were red and circled my poor villies. The death was so beautiful,I watched my villagers die. "LOL" the enemy said,"run away!"

RoR came out a week later and I'm addicted to mp aoe/ror/aoe2 forever I have died a thousand deaths.

I'll never forget my first time. I had just bought my pc, and of course started downloading game demos. at first i played mostly 3d shooters, but my interset in sci-fi got me to download the starcraft demo. I thought that the rts game was the best thing i had ever seen, and decided i would buy it as soon as i got up the money. In the mean time, i decided to give the ror demo a try, mostly because it seemed to show up at every game site) and fell instantly in love. I thought it was like starcraft but 10 times better. I played the demo for 8 hours straight and got horribly defeated. I didn't understand farming, and once i had run out of fish and game, had to start over. When i got home from work the next day, i played another 6 hours till i beat the pc. a week later i went out and bought the gold edition for $40, and i must say, never have i got so much for so little. The $40 dollar investment has kept me hurrying home from work to my pc for over a year now.

I first saw a video on a CD samplaer, and i thought it was some stupid game where you walked around and hit things with swords, but i got the demo, anyway, and began playing the Hittite campaign. I was so fascinated i woke up at 4 in the morning and played it untill school, and then played more. My dad was so mad he made me uninstall it, so i went out and bought the full thing, and Pow- meeza here!

my friend introduced me to aoe....... without him i would have never played this game...... funny thing is, he quit playing it like..... 2 weeks after we played 1st....

i still remember my 1st game..... at the time i still played warcraft 2 .... so i kind of knew what i was doing ....... my friend told me that you can train elephants... unaware of what that meant, i assumed he meant i can ride the wild eles and make them obey me lol...

then we were collecting resources like crazy.... building this "wonder" ..... hell if siege workshops made all these wicked catapults.... i couldnt wait to see what the wonder did ..... to my surprise after wasting all those resources, and the time building it, the wonder did... NOTHING

i dont remember much else from the 1st time that i played...... only other thing i know is that i was BLOWN AWAY the 1st tine i laid my eyes on a game of ror..... beautiful unit animations, varied army units.........

not the same thing with aok... 1st game of aok i was yawning like crazy, cuz it's soooooo boring damn you ES!!

AoE was the reason I bought my computer, no joke. My father in law played it and I saw it and thought it was stupid. Then he bragged about how good he was just to get me to play it. So I did. I used to think the best way to get to bronze was to research all techs available to get to bronze in good shape. Geez what joke I was! <-- I like that one. My first favorite civ was sumerian because they had the best farms. You can tell my priorities were in order here. I never knew what "tech tree" meant so I always played full tech tree against the computer. I said that if I could ever beat 8 computer players on large islands on hardest level, I would be ready for the bigtime. So when I did after six months of trying, I went online, live baby. I had my a$$ handed to me for a month by the bigshots and their little assyrian bowmen. I figured out how to forward build and wall in and could consistently bronze under 14 with yamato and I loved them cavs. Yams were my first favorite civ on the zone. I have said that AoE was the most expensive game I have ever bought because it cost me $1200 for the comptuer and accesories. Long live RoR!

After hearing a little hype I got the demo for ror.

(rough translation of a myriad of thoughts all spawned at once)
