The story line:
*
most of the Legions in Gaul have either retreated or were massicured. The Romans in England have been told to get out, Haidrians Wall has been abandond and the capital of the West Roman Empire has been moved to Ravenna. The Romans in the east are doing little to halp us and our army is bathed in corruption and washed in defeat. But still, our fort in Gaul will not give up. We have 4,084 troops and two commanders. The Germanic tribes have slowly learned our tactics and have now, armor of there own. They studied our formations, like the phalanx, and tortous and are quite skilled at what they do. Many people think that they got that way from our Roman ancesters who kicked the Huns out of the empire, with the help of the barbaric Germans, who after the war was over, taught their clan what they knew.
(both fact and fiction above.)

The story

I am the flag barrer of fort 14, today our commander told us that we must fight and take back control of Germania Interier, which the provience has been lost for sometime now. The capital of the province was burned and its governmet urslurpt.

There I was, I stuck the Imperial flag unto the ground and the battle had started.

What do you do?
*
Either as the flag barrer or adifferant person in the legion you tell what happeans, but not to much now, only afew sentances then someone else contenues. Nothing bazzar, keep it realistic, and at the end who knows maybe Rome won back the provence...

Day 1

We are preparing our armor and swords for the battle tomarrow, everyone is nervous. Night is falling, and we know that we must sleep to be ready for the battle, but it is hard and I am awake for many hours. I awake today, and we get our armor on, the attack shall soon come...

I remember when these things came up, hehe

It was still dark when I heard the sound of trumpets and shouts from over a distant hill, as the enemy stumbled over one of our farther scouts, who sacrificed his life to send that crystal trumpet cry to warn us of the approaching barbarians, who must be such, attacking at this hour of the morning...snapping out of my stupor, I grabbed my trumpet. With a few short blasts, out entire force, how little we had, was up and running to their posts. Already the cavalry were heading down to the river on the right of the battle field, which they would travel along for a surprise flanking maneuver. Then I saw them. Like raging animals, they drove foreward, but that was of little concern, compared to the great ballistas I saw behind them, guarded by hordes of archers and even crossbowmen. Oddly, there is little cavalry, but there must be more somewhere...

THUMP!! Alas, our pensive sentry need concern himself no more, as he stares at the black shaft of a quarrel jutting out of his chest. His face turns white at the color of the shaft. "Cursed Bar.." He is unable to finish the sentence as the ground lunges toward him.

As I look around amazed, the battle not over by far. It moved, somehow to the fort, our fort. The sentrys, with there javilins killed them, but the wall broke, they set aflames the centurions tent then the granery, but the calvery, what was left came in and killed most of them. The poor infentry of Rome marched in retreat, the fort was packed and set afire, we had to move to Itallia, Gaul was lost, all but one provence (true, one provence held out in Gaul or one or two years after the fall of Rome) We were now very close to the formal capital, still in its great spender, as it always was.

NO00000000000, this cant die so soon...

As we regain our streangth, we start laying out barriers to stop the attackers, as we know that if we fail again all will be lost. More fresh soldiers are comming over to our position to help repel the attackers, they will not stop and even now we can see their camps popping up on the horisan. This time we cannot run as we have no where to go, we must stop them at all costs and never give up. The next morning as the sun rises that attack comes, all I can think is that this is it, it is eaither win or die...

THWACK! The sudden, jarring impact of an arrow striking my shield sends me reeling backwards in shock. I hold my ground though, to retreat is to die, and to die here in this godforsaken barbarian land would be a cruel fate indeed. Instead I rush forward, smashing my spear through the chest of a screaming foeman. another arrow screams past my head, lodging itself in the throat of a soldier just behind me. Releasing my splintered spear to the ground, I retrieve the dead man's battle-axe. "Chaaaaaaaaaarrrrggggeeeeee!" someone screams, and we do...

The battle is over, we did not win, but a loss, no. We all 2,203 of us at the fort at Itallia, are moving to the capital, where our emperor will try to win and mantain our lost empire. I packed our ballista and out flag and we left. We head to Ravenna, and if we win, we advance, if we lose, we head to the city of Rome.
