Most of you guys that used to post here have AoK. But that forum seems a little out of control. Why not bring back the old forummers to post here about AoK. Just a thought. There seems to be enough posts for two forums thats for sure.

To keep this on-topic for this forum we must use the official MS name AOE II. Although I do not have it yet I did see the game at a friend's house last night. He hadn't played it yet so I watched as he went through a learning scenario. It was much better looking than I thought. I had heard about the building sizes and worried that I would have to get a new video card so I could run it in 1280x1024.
It was running in 800x600 and seemed very playable. Another thing I was pleased about was all the knowledge I had gained from reading in various forums and newsgroups was sticking in my mind. I was telling my friend what to do and it was working. If I ever get the game I think it will be pretty easy to get going (although learning all the new units and their counters will take a long time.) The strangest looking thing was the outlines of units and animals behind building and forests. I really didn't like that much but it is necessary. The market trading is a nice feature. Another funny thing. The herding and killing of sheep. You kindly coax a sheep up to the storage place and then turn brutal, dispatching it with the shepherd's staff. My friend is a vegetarian on the grounds of having to kill animals to eat them and after he saw it he just couldn't bring himself to harvest the sheep. I have seen him kill many eles in ROR without the least problem.

I like the idea. The AoK forums are way out of control with way to many people there... And only maybe 1 good topic out of 20

If you want strategy go to GX AOK forum. If you want cr@p like "sheeps are cool" or "i want a aok cap" or "bruce i loooove you" goto heavens AOK! I have a couple of times peeked at heavens aok and indeed it's totally laughable! Guess that the competition isn't that greater in AOK since alot of em seems to have either never played aoe/ror or have not that much of a clue!

As for this forum it's a Ror forum I don't see why you would put AOK topics here... Oh yeah I don't have AOK coz I simply don't know why I should quit playing Ror!

Just hope that people that find AOK boring will switch back to Ror... Yes I am dreaming, even if they find the game stinky they will continue playing it coz they bought it and in some case they even upgraded their computer to play it haha!!!

When is MS patching ror btw??? Probably at the same time they will patch aok... never.

I don't think so. This is AOE Heaven. AOK heaven will settle down sooner or later. It's up to the Angel and all those guys I suppose.

RoR / AoK What's the difference?

I did take a look the Gx Forum Sebsoft. To me it was just the same people that inhabited the old Shai'tan forum. Methos, Staffa Thump, Malachi and others. All good players but I never really cared much for their forum.

I would have thought that someone might be interested in the odd post here but I guess the people that still play ROR either don't have anything new to say or they are new and don't know it exists. Since nobody comes here to post anyway Josh, there really isn't anyone to complain about is there?

Oh well, I got you guys to post a few anyway .

Reminds me of when the angels and some forumers were whinning about the non-quality post and how everyone claimed that all the "great players" would come back posting once AOK would be out! Guess they were wrong eh? If they could turn back the clock they would probably appreciate the efforts of MarkAurel's weekly civ analysis for instance!

Anyway if they wanted to have the "great players" as they call them why not switching to Gx forum? The aok forum is for the mass isn't that good? Do you want players that i would describe as annoying chess-thumpers or the mass with their inadequate posts? Perhaps you want something between... Maybe you want the old AOE forum back like it was. Perhaps switching back here is the solution. Personnaly I don't think someone will bring something new to ror anyway. Does this mean that am tired of playing Ror? No.
Actually bringing some discussion on AOK might amuse the ror player as they see how umbalanced and boring the no rush AOK is! Perhaps some will be convinced to switch back to ROR (tired of playing two hours avg games) or some might go to AOK...

The forum is pretty dead so it's perhaps a great idea!

Yeah, I am just kind of wondering where all those old forummers went to. I don't see them posting much on AoK forum. There just seem to be far too many posts that hardly get replied to, over there.

I just thought that maybe some of the old forummers might slide back here and give us some of their thoughts on the game in a more relaxed forum.

So you think the game is unbalanced Seb? And whats with the no rush? Seems I have heard a few people describing rushing strategies. Is it just that rushing isn't effective now? Some people might like that aspect.

I don't think ES will be getting my money this time. Nothing against AoK but I think I can get my kicks just as easy with RoR.

AoK is well worth trying. True the military is so balanced that every unit has a counter. The ships have much variety...so different than AoE and RoR sea battles. The games are longer but I'll bet strats will work out where less than an hour long will be common.

I really suck at preplanned strategy..every game is different for me (even RoR/AoE). One can still rush on a close enemy...but the town centers shoot back! It's much fun to annoy your closest enemy...kinda poke at him till he runs in his TC...then back off..and annoy again

The recorded games feature I love. I have a collection already of the top experts games in RM and DM. When you watch them you can chose any of the players perspective. I switch from player to player while I watch. You see what they research and if you check "view lock" you see exactly how their view switches. I wish they had this feature in RoR and AoE. I would get better so much faster.

I played in a 3 vs 3 random-random AoK game last night vs the Alohas. It turned out to be islands. Lucky Alohas , 2 of them got the viking civs which have the longboat...one of my allies quit in the second age when someone trannied some barracks units on his island. Me and my other allie managed to make a 3rd age landing on one of them and built castles and wiped him out. Then the 2 viking alohas punished us by massive sea and land attacks. It was a great game and only 2 hours. Then I went back to aoe and ror

Yes the posts at heaven are not too quality full...but the recorded games are so much better than any written strats(for me anyway) Maybe that is why? Hope to play with you all one day in AoE or RoR or AoK .. have fun and good night

Unfortuanately I have become a victim of computer obsolesence, Tenaciti. Otherwise I would probably have bought it by now. Anyway, in a couple more years Age 3 will be out and and Age 2 will fade out just as RoR is now. Such is life. I will be testing out what the Playstation 2 has to offer before I spend any more cash on upgraded comps. Maybe in a couple of years, who knows.

That recorded game feature sounds great. And I don't think the games last any longer than AoE. Besides you can always save, right. It is good to see a lot of players continue to play both games though. I was was hoping that would be the case.

Computer obsolesence is a problem with playing the new games. It seems to me that gaming computers are really on the cutting edge. Do you really think it will take 2 years for AoK3 to come out? I hope not but at least I'll be a good player by then (haha i can have hope!)

With 'saving' AoK games one has to use the zone save room to play and the exact same people must resume the saved games. This has been unrealistic for most of my games.

The AoK games are much longer if the sides are equal matchups. In AoE just yesterday i had one of those great games which goes to the last tree, vills search for a cowering deer or one SF. Trade boats are bringing gold...and victory comes to the team that can keep the tiny army standing AoE just rocks..and it lives well with many good/honest fun players. AoK is fun and different
