I think that is really incredible to win shang by Minoan.
Even a newbies bronze 15:00 with shang.
Here is some of my expierience:
I play a 2v2 game and that is Minoan + Shang VS 2 Shang
But when I hit bronze by 14:10, my opponent have already build 5 Archery Range besides me. How can I defence against this?
(of course, I lost terribly..........)

Sounds like you need to scout a little better and perhaps wall yourself in.

It is tough against a good player to use minoan because it takes so damn long to get the impie and comp upgrade. But once you have them going, minoan can be quite a force.

Also, get a workshop up right away and use st's covered by compies to remove anyone who has built near you.

Against a Shanger I would definatly consider a resource equalization during the tool age. That economic powerhouse that they are building up needs to be slowed down.

I would go for a small archer force in early tool (maybe 3-5). Being Minoan, you're going to want the archery anyways. If you got the extra food, go for the armor upgrade (will make a big difference and you would want to get it anyways for your compies). Archers are also a good choice because those X2HP Shang walls are a total roadblock to most tool attacks.

It sounds like your opponent goes for the bronze rush, so a good Tool "distraction" should slow him down enough for you to get your powerhouse going. At the very least, you will both arrive Bronze at the same time. And if you cut into his woodie population, he'll have a harder time building those 5 archeries outside your base.

Shang starts to fall in late bronze, which is where Minoa starts to shine. A strong Minoan compie/ST combo is almost unstoppable in late bronze. Good luck and have fun.

News flash for ya, Shang can do that against any other civ too It's not a Minoa problem alone, at least Minoa is a good civ, I'd try to wall better, since Shang owns tool if you get to bronze at least you'd have a fighting chance, also has to do with the persons skill, mebe you got outmatched by a better Shang player. (If you're not Shang sometimes it seems everyone else is better, lol)

Given, Shang has one of the best tool attacks out there, certainly better than a Minoan Tool. But if you suggest that Minoa should wall it in a ride it out I think you are very mistaken.

If the Shanger is boomin away and going all out to build a monster Bronze force (which I am asuming to be the case, since they are forward building 5 archeries) a few walls aren't going to stop them. If they have that much wood on their hands, you gotta know that Seige workshops and ST are right behind those compies. And we all know what those will do to your walls.

So as far as walling in till bronze and then having a fighting chance, I just don't see it happening. Bronze for a Shanger is late Tool for most other players.

If you don't get out there early on and get aggressive, you'll get steamrolled. IF they were doing a hard tool attack then that is a totally different story (and that's were the art of watching the Achievements)

Let's face it, man: SHANG RULES.

No ifs and buts, it's plain as that.

For someone to be able to win to Shang with any other Civ, he needs:

- To be much faster than the Shang player.
- To have a godly spot, while the Shang has no stragglers or shore fish around.
- Th play a really bad Shang opponent
- Etc. etc.

In summary:

If the player quality is relativelly balanced, or the map is not that much unbalanced, then the Shang ALWAYS has the advantage.

Resourdes do come in at a glorious rate when you have lots of REAL Villagers doing the work.

Continental or Mediterranean are more favorable to Minoan, because of chaper ships.
However, the Shang can go Tool before you and with only 1 or 2 Scout ships ruin that advantage of yours completelly.

Sad, but it's life (and a huge screw-up by ES).

Good morning all Shang is not balanced properly. It is the strongest civ by far.

ES was told this many times by expert gamers and ES made the mistake of disregarding their suggestions. This is why in tournys the game finals are always Shang. This is why "no shang" games are made.

Sure a better player could beat shang with almost anything. **whines a little** i get killed with greek However in the hands of a expert Shang is unstopable against any civ.

Hey Lau,
Your name sound like a Malaysian name to me. Are you one? If you are then cool, I've been looking for Malaysian players and such.

Anyway, back to your topic about Minoan and Shang. I think Shang is not totally unbeatable with Minoan. The main weakness in Minoan is that they need that Compy upgrade before they can produce the powerful Composite Archer which make Minoan very weak in early bronze.

Usually when I play against Shang, I have a pretty good defense, like walls or towers. One good way to slow down Shang is to do some economic equalisation, i.e. attack in tool.
