Well, after we exchanged pleasantries (I wished him Shang; lucifer likewise wished himself Shang), we arrived in the Game world, and, just as in the real world, I got dealt a most unfortunate hand. I got Greeked by the Random Gods (and when they Greek you, you FEEL it).
Fortunately, the Map Gods took pity upon me, and gave me a very ample shore fish spot, and even placed a lone elliefink nearby. Though stragglers were far from plentiful, I was able to get some wood from a forest not far from my TC. I later pitted wood/gold on the far side of that forest.
Due to the early food bounty, I remained consistently a step ahead of my worthy foe in the villie count. I believe he got within one of me (18 vills to my 19), but it was just around this point (approx 6:30) that I began boat booming - lots of nice fishies near my encampment.
My early scout vill found a Luci-house near 11:00. As I started near 9:00, I assumed it was simply a radar house; I didn't think we would have begun the game so close together, and both on the same side of the map. I continued wandering through that delusion - completely missing his base. So my scout went on a delightful, lion-free romp through the countryside, 'Searching for SuperBlaireau'. Only upon hitting the sea, circling back, did I find him, and began to build a rax, sending another vill to assist in the chore. Unfortunately, both villies were discovered at their nefarious business, and both succumbed to a flurry of bones. A later, more stalwart vill managed to complete the task before getting his own skull staved in.
Meanwhile, back on the home turf, I got a bit cautious, and searched around to see if he'd located me, though I saw no signs in my vicinity. Still, justifiably paranoid, I built another rax near me, and generated a few clubbers.
He tooled ahead of me, but I boat boomed in late Stone and throughout Tool. I got the infantry armor, and sent my clubbers towards Lucifer, having located his woodies. Soon, I'd popped out a few slingers from the forward rax, as my clubbers arrived, now upgraded to axers. The timing was perfect - just then, Lucifer had some archers trying to protect his woodies from my oncoming axers. My slingers dealt with them ruthlessly, and the chase was on.
My axers chased his woodies around the forest for a turn or two, as I had to keep my over-zealous and under-sighted axers from giving his houses a going-over. "First things first, you simple-minded brutes!" Any bowmen that entered the fray were quick to leave it, under a volley of stones.
Another small team of villies built a couple of stables a bit southwest of Lucifer's position, away from my rax. We bronzed at almost the exact same time (approx. 16:45), but I had been mining gold early, and was able to generate a few cav in his area, and used my forward builders to pop up a couple of workshops and an Academy.
I found one of his docks, and used my slingers to eliminate his fish boats, while cav #1 began taking out the dock. Unbeknownst to me, he'd snuck his villies back in under cover of blindness to continue chopping the same forest. Should have left a guard to two there. Live and learn.
My first stonie was met by Luci's first camel, but my +1 attack slingers were Johnnies on the spot, and poof - bye bye camel. My stonie went back to work, wiping out his ranges. More cav and some hoppers began to go to work on his town center, along w/ the remaining axers and slings. I continued forward building west of his TC, popping up a couple of TC's to take other gold and wood sources.
Soon, Lucifer congratulated me for a "good game," and threw in the towel, at about the 23:00 mark. He had put up good fight, but was outnumbered, and outresourced. Definitely a fun one, and I look forward to the rematch out in the Mediterranean.
(Note: I have no website, but I do have pix. Lemme know if there's some place I can post them, but as they ain't to exciting, they might not be worthwhile.)
