I may be crazy, but a couple of times now I have noticed being short one villager. The game starts I que up 4 villagers, do the standard running around find berries whatever. I look up and my pop counter is at 7, but I can only find 6 peons. I looked all around the explored area, double checking the large map and in and around trees, but can still only find 6. Has anybody else had this happen? I may have just missed one, but I looked hard and have noticed it twice in the past week. Just checking my sanity.

something like that happened to me once, but with a bunch of siege weapons on a transport. the transport disapeared, along with the units onboard. i heard no warning horn to say my transport was under attack, and my population never went down. of course, that was one of those times my computer hadn't been off in two or three days, and was probably close to overheating.

Simple. This happens to me quite often. Your villie is hiding behind a tree. You sent him to explore out and he ended up nicely hidden in a forest. A way to detect this is to look for the absense of fog of war around a tree, then drag a box around it, and he'll highlight, thus revealing the slippery villager.

BTW, I didn't read your entire message =). But 9 times out of 10 I find that this is the problem. Just look harder around the trees and for fog of war absences.

Should show up on your minimap, too.

BTW, if you can't seem to grab him, just bring another villager onto the same screen and double click him. I am not sure why, but sometimes I have lost one near my original TC, but when I double-click the other guy, there he is!

A couple of tips to help you here.

1) Assign your first 3 vils to the SAME hotkey #.. I use #3...If you aren't after a quick food source when vil 4 is born or even vil 5 sometimes.. assign them to the same hotkey. (shift 3 ctrl 3) Now when I find my berries I type 3 and all 3-5 vils run right for the berries saving me considerable time in finding and selecting them individually which more than compensates for the sec or 2 management lost assigning them a hot key. Vil's can be clicked on and assigned a hot key while walking and thus I don't it after I have way pointed my newborn explorers.

2) Assign later explorers to a hot key.. no more lost explorers. You see they ran by the enemy camp.. quickly hit alt # and get the view center on them and drop that rax in a good spot.

3) Hot key your scout.. I use #5. No more lost pony. I had blue in a watery game and forgot to hot key my scout and wasted 5 sec real time at 1.5 looking for him because he was by the sea and unseen on the minimap.

Hot key early explorers and you'll never lose them... neilkaz...

I kinda figured I was just screwing up. Thanx for the tips neilkaz. I think I agree with the theory that one had parked behind a tree somewhere. It's just that I looked so hard and "drag selected" in areas with clumps of trees and still couldn't find em. The doube click idea is a good one too.

Well, maybe I should write a strategy guide.
