I'm confused as to how armor works. When I added archer armor (for example) I expected it to increase the hit points on my bowman - but it doesnt. I see that I get a little "+2" on my armor read-out but what exactly does that mean? It's hard to know how much more durable that makes my archer dudes (an increase of hitpoints would be much more understandable). I know this is nitty-gritty but if anyone can shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

Armor means that they take less damage from hand-to-hand attacks. +2 armor means that if they recieve an attack of seven, then they recieve only five damage.

Also, piercing armor decreases the damage from arrows (comes with the units such as slinger and Heavy Cav) and can be upgraded at the storage pit by shields.

So if you put armor on your archers - does that help against getting hit by arrows and other misiles or does it just help against hand-to-hand (barracks and hoplites) attacks?

for all units armor= defense against melee attacks. Shield upgrades= piercing armor against archery attacks. Some advanced archer units (HA, HHA) have peircing armor I believe.

Just to make it easy to understand... armor protects vs. melee only, so upgrading armor if your enemy is going pure archers is useless. Armor system is simple... cav has 8 attack, say you upgrade 2 armor, it does 6 instead? easy enough? Same goes for piercing armor, Mace Hopper has 2 PA, chariot archer does 4 damage per shot, chariot only deals 2 damage.

Just got finished playing a game against the computer. Med. map default res. I had Minoa and was attacking the computers with compies with both armor upgrades. +4. But when a villager comes up and clubs me with only 3 attack, he still does damage. Does armor really come into play here?

The armor can cancel out attacks so that the attacker only does one damage. I dont think theres any way for it to do more.

yeah, there's minimum damage for every attack (1) if there wasn't imagine how gross it would be when hoppers or phalanx came in and all ya had were melee units (since they have super high armor) still 1 damage is low. Like when I bet my friend my 6 phalanx would kill all his cavs (He had like 30, hehe)

HAHA, if armor worked purely as a deductor to attacks, when a villager attacks a centurion, the centurion would suffer -5 damage (villager's bone bounces off the armor of the centurion and bats himself in the face).

Actuly, if it did -5 damage, the bone would give the Centrion +5 HP. :P
