You can't, but if you go to multiplayer, and play v a computer. You can

Actually you can, open up the properties to the ROR shortcut and at the end of the C:\AOE\empiresx.exe insert "Limit=x" x being the pop limit. so it would look something like this:

command line: C:\aoe\empiresx.exe limit=150

I believe that's how, i may be slightly off on how check the text file in your AOE directory )

The Limit=xxx only affects multiplayer mode.

There is a way to do it, but I have been horribly unsuccessful at it despite several people giving me advice. Supposedly, you can set up the game through an IPX connection and not have to get on-line to play multiplayer with yourself (and thus get higher pop-limits). But as I said, I've tried all the variations that I could think of and still no go.

If some-one does tell you how, make sure you have them spell it out in detail like u r a dummy (which i am ), because I think the devil is in the details here.

Good luck.

blue_myriddn, I am sorry you still haven't been able to make this work. I suggested you try the serial connection but I noticed on GX that you said it still gave the "must be connected" message. I am wondering what o/s, win95a, win95b, win98, win98se, etc. you are using. I also wonder what network adapters and protocols show up in your network properties (right click network neighborhood and pick properties or Start-Settings-Control Panel-Network. Depending on your current system you might need to delete all network entries in properties and reinstall them. When I select serial connection it brings up a box with default com1 settings and I just click ok. One time I tried to change the default baud rate and clicked ok then it gave me the same message about being connected. Lots of people are able to do this easily so it has to be something messed up in your computer. Please post back any info about your computer and I will try to help figure it out.

This is what I do. Open up rise of rome and go to the main screen.
Click Multiplayer
Enter Your Name
Click Internet TCP/IP Connection for Direct Play Select Ok
Click create game and type whatever u want
Now it brings u to a multiplayer screen where u can play agianst the computer and change the pop limit. I don't have to be connected to do this so it might work for you. Good Luck

Thanks for still thinkin of me Thinker. Yeah, I've posted a few times about this with no luck despite alot of good advice.

Actually, now that I think of it, it may be something specific to my machine because I am having some pretty monster weird problems with my USR 56K modem (which is why people probably don't see me on-line much).

But I just got a new tip on how to deal with the modem from FS Hardware board (good board - I recomend it for all your hardware questions), so maybe that will clear up my single pop-limit questions.

The system I am running on is an AMD K6 200, 64MB RAM, on Window's 95. I've only got one protocol on my network properties and its to a university 56K closed access acount (ie. only the dorks like me get access to this one ). And as far as the adapters, I am not sure because I am at work and my comp is at home.

I'll give it a go again after I fix my modem and maybe it will work for me. Flarelance, I hope it works easily for you.

Limit=xxx is suppose to work for single player, i'm talking about adding it to the COMMAND LINE in the shortcut, not to the registry. At least according to the readme file.

SoulArcher, we know. But that only affects multiplayer only. And in ROR you can just change it via a drop down menu, so whats the use?

Borgboy12 and SoulArcher, it is true in a ROR you can change it in the setup screen but if you add it to the registry then in zone games at least it comes up as a default so if you forget to change it you aren't stuck in a 50 pop-gig conti 3v3 game that could go on for hours.

On a gig map with pop 25 the true test would be bladder size. Maybe you play these games in the restroom.
