I need help from more experienced Ror/Aoe players.
What can I do against a girlfriend/exam combo? (I know a wife/boss rush can be more dangerous).
Last night, I was in the heat of a ferocious Aoe battle when suddenly BANG my girlfriend came and began to harass me!
No need to say I lost the game
Jehu, Stooge_Farsan, Post,.. I need your help!

Lucifer.

LOL

I think the wife/boss combo is easier to deal wtih - use clubman or axers

Girlfriend/exam combo is deadliest as you said. There is no way to beat that - without being ruined.

Since a while now I have been visiting my psycholigist to deal with my computer game addiction problems - if it has any effect, you will see me less often in zone or in this forum. I do hope it will have some effect.

Walls, walls, and more walls! Wear down the opposition with protected defenses. Eventually, they will concentrate their fire and focus elsewhere. Use feints, diversions, feigned stupidity and ignorance. Attack only when absolutely necessary and continue to buy time. The next game is always the most important.

I have to agree with NoSoup4U. They have something far better than any amount of AOE/ROR.

LOL! And Here I was ready to post Shang/Palmy/Hittite. Girlfriend/Exam is nothing compared to Wife/Boss. Thats why I always give newly weds a nice butcher knife so he can chop that finger off. Less pain then trying to get a divorce. learn your lesson from the Girlfriend/Exam combo Please!

ROFL

Well, what I did with some success early on was to attack my wifes sense of manners and decorum. I point out that leaving in the middle of the game with people from around the world would be like hanging up the phone on a friend or closing the door in someones face. Then I promise, "This is the last game tonight, I'll be off in a few minutes."

That tactic doesn't work very well anymore. This may be shocking to some but my wife doesn't particularly like you people any more. I think she views this computer and my AoE friends kind of like a bartender serving another drink to a slobbering drunk man before he drives home through a school zone! Yes, the drunk is responsible but that bartender should be ashamed.

I will not condone premarital...UhHummmm...acts simulating an effort to procreate, but once you get married you can use such things as bargaining tools if you get my drift. In such a case, deserting an epic battle might be well worth considering.

There is an attack much deadlier than any mentioned previously. That is the dreaded 8 year old daddy's girl that asks you to tuck her in bed and sing her a song as you are figurously trying to defend a wonder from an all out attack. She looks at you with those "Big-ole-Eyes" and says, "You care more about that computer than your family!" ...Ouch!!!

For that my friend, there is no defense.

There is also a slick new attack. While not destroying you it does weaken you ecconomy its the Girlfriend Phone Call at Midnight because they haven't heard from you in a while. Well it doesn't call for outright desertion. It does call for the turning off of all sounds and using keyboard short cuts. I still get caught with the "Your busy doing something arn't you" attack. They cut right through my walls. I was cruilly kept alive for 45 minutes untill their economy destroyrd mine. Help I don't know if the phone call is worth it?

In me own opinion!

Stooge_Farsan, I think you're making a critical mistake-- NEVER, I repeat, NEVER use clubmen to take care of the wife rush. It can, and will, result in the quick depletion of half of your resources! Plus, she takes half of your houses and other buildings, too. Brutal.

My wife doesn't like you people very much anymore, either. She's getting pretty good at that "Oh, No. Not that game again!" speech. I had just begun a decent bronze attack in a 3v3 game when she got mad and slammed the door to the computer room on her way to another part of the house the other night. I'm trying to solve this by playing after she goes to sleep for a while, but I don't know how long that can hold up. 8-)

well, thx you all! It helps me A LOT

I just read the "age of agers" thread and saw that we didnt consider an other VERY DANGEROUS rush. As far as I know, it's very common among the 12-16 age groups:

It's the dreaded "Mom who ask you to stop this stupid game and go to bed" rush.

Hey, oldguy, you dont need to read "the complete greek mythology book" to know who Lysistrata is.
Weeks ago, I watched a nice movie about this intersting subject. As far as I remember the
title was "Lysistrata and Rocco Sifredi"
(starring Tracy Lords).
And by now, I can safely say I know all about Lysistrata.

Yeah, the "get off the net and go to bed" rush has totally cleaned me out a couple times That's why I'm going to college in 1.5 years now (I keep hitting the + key but time doesn't speed up..!).

And Jehu, there's a solution to the 8-year old girl guilt trip attack: No kids. Besides, you're against teen procreation anyway. So am I, except when it's me.

Nineveh

Too late for the no kids defense here. Besides, the costs of that type of defense are far too high. Especially where a daddy's girl is concerned.

So you are going off to college so you can stay on the net for all hours? That may not be the best reason, but it is one reason I guess. May I predict that at the conclusion of your freshman year our GPA may be a bit lower than your scholastic abilities are capable of? j/k

Hi oldguy: Well I would not call myself a scholar, but yes I've been in love with greek antiquity since I was 11 or so and during college pretty much read everything I could find by/about them. I don't think "the complete greek mythology book" was one of them, but I do remember not being able to put down things like The Peloponnesian Wars, Herodotus, all the plays, specialy Aristophanes, the philosophers, etc. I think the ancient greeks shaped my life considerably. In high school I was a good wrestler AND 3rd board on the chess team. I was in the football team AND in the debate team. I got the idea from them that one should develop fully. It still amazes me how that little civilization came up with all the stuff they did, which dictated the course of human history and where we are today far more than most people realize. The best thing ever happened to me was running accross the Illiad and a biography of Alexander when I was 11 years old.

sure kaban. Nineveh- I can sympathize. I simply have no way of stopping that rush. I am trying to get into MIT and am only a freshman so I can't really stay up later than I already do > Oh well, I still have weekends. And without the burden of a social life (other than occasional church stuff) I can focus all, and I do mean all, of my waking moments on AoE. (I have *never* had a date)(SOB!!) oh well, I will probably be making more $ than my more social counterparts. Let's hope I can do all my shopping by comp so i never have to leave the house. too late, hit by the go to bed rush again.

Freshman in High School or College?

I'm busy trying to get into the Cornell College of Engineering... when that fails (and believe me, it will, were talkin 1 in 6 acceptance rates here I'm goin to WPI.

I'm a Junior in HS. And Jehu, I plan on doing all my homework, but then when I'm done I'll play AoE instead of doing "chores" or watching the *****that is TV or listening to parents say "get off the net".

Did I mention I got RoR?

Phreak, it's kind of ironic that this is one of the few locations on the planet where a guy could say he's never had a date and not get laughed out of the room.

That's ok, I've had..enough... dates to realize that I usually ending up spending too much money on a girl I won't think about in 6 months.

Oh whoops, this is an AOE forum, shuttup Nineveh!
