Hydarnes,
I'm an Egypt lover too, and as well as a faithful, but please tell me how sending in a single scythe at a time against a Hittite HHA/cat combo will weaken him.
As to the original poster:
Ok, if you are fighting an opponent who has a cat only army, you are fighting a newbie. Not a rookie, a newbie. There's just no way that a scout or a peon will make it to the cats, through all the HA fire, helo fire (as in the dual siege case that borgboy mentions) or whatever else that is guarding them.
If you are facing some serious siege, such as Roman dual siege, you can't use scythes alone. As always, it is the mixed army that wins. There is no one counter to dual siege, but there are counters. If I was facing dual siege, with say, my two pet civs, I would try to counter as per below.
Egypt:
- Convert a few cats which outranges the siege. Martyr, if necessary.
- I usually guard my Egy priests with EAs, so they might as well take a few shots, too.
- Aim converted cats on helos. They should get a shot out before being destroyed.
- During the ensuing chaos, charge with scythes, from multiple directions, if possible.
Hittite:
- Haha. Ok, but suppose the enemy team was able to control the gold, leaving you with only a few cats, w/o the heavy upgrade. Well, you should at least then have a good number of scythes. In such a case, I would do the below.
- Send in the scythes, from multiple directions. If you can't do it from multiple directions, forget it. Move to another area. Choose your place of battle.
- Bombard the entire batch.
- Send in another wave of scythes.
- Add ballista towers, some where in the above steps, if you are able.
