Many people have complained about the fact that some of the sigs have gotten excessive, but it seems to have had little effect. FWIW, I can browse other sites all day and never have a problem with Netscape. Come here and open about 5 windows and it's guaranteed to crash.

Some combination of the forum windows I had open this evening crashed Netscape yet again, and this time, I was working on my preferences while waiting for all the graphics to load. It crashed all my bookmarks and all my settings.

I quit. I can't use my computer as a professional tool and have it crashing because someone is testing some programming skills.

I will probably hang around in VVV until it gets sig heavy, but other than that, I'm sticking to GX.

CYA on the Zone, but probably not here.

FWIW, Thx, Borgboy, for toning it down.

Keep your stick on the ice.

Most unfortunate for everyone I'm afraid. I don't really understand how this can happen and how you can trace it to sigs. I'm blissfully ignorant about these things.

Sorry to see you go. I promise to keep my stick on the ice.

*hangin' on Thorfinn's leg like a gummy Jeff van Gundy* NOOOOOO!!!! You CAN'T LEAVE!!!

Though I haven't had the crashes, I do have an interesting perspective on the "sig" issue and some problems caused by excessive fiddly-bits. I have I.E. at home, and no problems, though some of the more sig-heavy threads are still a beast to load. But I have Netscape at work, so during those few nanoseconds I'm goofin' off and surfin' the forums, I can see some evidence of the difficulty Netscape has with some of these siggies.

Borgboy's sig, in particular, always blows up a thread when I view it in Netscape. Though the thread is still readable, there's a huge blotch of purplish-blue all over the background, as though someone had put a shotgun in Barney's mouth, and splattered him all over the landscape (and someone certainly should). Although it takes even longer to load these sig-'eavy threads on Netscape, I have not had any other difficulties.

I hope you reconsider, while we lobby the Powers that Be for a Sig-Free Heaven! Viva la Revolucion!

Thorfinn, I posted on three threads tonight with many thumbnail pics. Could all these pics have contibuted to your problem? If so, then let me know, because I can simply insert a link to my site for these three games. But I'd only do it if you think these thumbnails are a part of the problem.

I hope you feel better later.

In the spirit of Boneser, I'll also keep my stick on the ice until you return.

Hey Thor don’t go…

I always keep my stick on the ice !

You are one of the best posters here.

With O_Captian gone and Lucifer tells me hes off for a couple of weeks, eug1 on holidays, you just can’t leave. I promise I wont put up my fancy sig… heck I don’t even put up smileys !
Mind you I am surprised that Netscape crashes.. I know a lot of people who love using it but complain of crashes…IE rarely ever crashes even on my pathetic PC.

Sorry, all, I was awfully ticked off last night. I laid awake till around 4:00 fuming about being forced to use my computer to debug others' programming skills. I've got my pet theories on why our society is more accepting of buggy programs than they should be, but thats for another thread. I finally decided to just go with the flow. From now on, I will use IE5 to view the Forum, and either Opera or Netscape for my general browsing.

The crash was not really that significant, since I back up at least twice a week, but just an irritation. After all, I only "lost" a Saturday's "work". And I wouldn't have had the problem at all if I had opened it with Netscape 4.5 rather than 4.05, as the newer version ignores proprietary IE garbage much better, with only a small hit to performance.

Chubby, I doubt its the thumbnails. That's a common technique, widely used on the Internet, and AoEH is the ONLY site I have run into that can consistently make Netscape 4.05 crash.

FWIW, I doubt its just one thing making it happen, but a bunch of slightly different programming styles, probably some improper handling of extension scripts. As a matter of fact, the log makes it appear that ugo.net may have contributed to this one.

Keep your stick on the ice.

Thorfinn, glad to see your stick is still on the ice. Agree with 'gedn and Tiger Lilly . . . you are one of the bright spots on this forum. Sorry you ended up #9 last night; hope we can get a game together soon. Wish I could write a complete sentence . . .

Although I can't please everybody, I will try to please Tiger Lily, because she's probably a lot prettier than you guys!

I added a link to the threads where I posted pictures yesterday, so now everyone can open those threads without fear.
