Topic Subject:Rise of Rome - Comprehensive Unit Table

Yes, I've done it again.

I've added a new page to my site containing updated unit information for Rise of Rome. This includes line-of-sight, attack rate, build time, and othe details not found in the RoR manual.

Comprehensive Unit Tables for Rise of Rome

Some thoughts:

Notice that Fire Galleys build very quickly -- in only 24 seconds!

While archers gain LOS from upgrades, priests don't gain vision from Afterlife, and catapults can't see farther when you research Engineering.

Elephant archers have one less square of vision than do other archers.

Scouts gain more vision as you research new ages; in the Stone Age, before they can be built normally, Scouts only see 8 squares!

I always welcome reasoned, intelligent, or humorous comments. If you find any errors, please let me know.

- Scott

Nice table. I made something similar, as well. The AOE version is already in the granary, and the updated ROR version should appear in the next update. It shows all stats with and without upgrades (except for build time and LOS, I may update it again though). It is even more complete than your list though, as it includes more units (heros, animals, builings, etc.). It was written as a searchable database, but an HTML version is available.

You can find the HTML version online at . I found movement speed particularly fascinating, what do the rest of you think?

I wasn't trying to compete. I like your table very much. Its just that I have a table that I thought other might find useful/interesting in addition to yours.

I have your table printed and sitting next to my computer for quick access.

I haven't read yours yet but I will.

some humble corrections to BlackDouglas's table:

A) slingers take 24 game-seconds to produce.

B) fire galleys take 45 game-seconds to produce. This is still the fastest of any boat except for fishing boats.

C) the archer chariot bonus vs. priests is not actually x3, but is +7.

D) Ditto for scythe chariots and chariots -- they get +7 damage to priests, pure and simple.

E) useful clarification: the radius of effect for the various "splashing" units

Cat Trireme = 1.0 tiles
Juggernaught = 1.5 tiles
Stone Thrower = 0.5 tiles
Catapult = 1.5 tiles
Heavy Catapult = 1.5 tiles

F) for some reason, BlackDouglas's times for the boat building are all shorter than it says in the database. I'm not sure if this is because he is timing them according to a faster clock speed, or what, but here is what the database says. It's especially odd because his other times are generally quite accurate.

Fishing Boat/Ship = 40 game-seconds
Trade Boat/Ship = 50
Transport Lt/Hvy = 75
Scout Ship to Trireme = 60
Fire Galley = 45

F) the attack rate of all stable units is universally 1.5.

G) Some ship speeds are off by a trifling amount.
Scout ships/war galleys/triremes = 1.75, Cat triremes/juggs = 1.35
Fire Galleys = 2.0
Lt transport = 1.4
Hvy Transport = 1.75
Fishing Boat = 1.4
Fishing Ship = 2.0

H) Fire galley has a range of 1 (actually makes a difference sometimes).

Thank you, most noble Sandyman! I will update and correct my tables this evening, and post here when they are complete.

I'll double check the construction times. I'm doing the tests on a 200Mhx Pentium MMX at 1.0 speed, using the F11 clock to see how long various things take.

Your nobility restores my faith in Ensemble!

Firstly I know you'll probably have a go at me but who cares??

Back to the plot on your tables you said how long it takes to build something, right? ( I haven't read it myself) I was just wondering does it really matter how long it takes? I can see the point in knowing what you need to build first and their attack and defnse points even perhaps how quickly they move, but how long they take to build? all you need to do is build it once and you then you know roughly how fast it builds, you don't need to know exactly how fast do we??

Great job BlackDouglas. I have always enjoyed your comprehensive tables. Its true that many people don't care about some aspects of the table so they can just ignore them. For the diehard micro-micro-manager, they can really help. Keep up the good work.

The numbers are very important when fine-tuning a strategy. Think how chess masters study and analyze their game, finding optimal moves for given situations.

From personal experience in Aoe, it seems like Sandy's numbers are off. Fishing boats at 40s? When I'm vill/boat boomig the boats come out nearly as fast as vills, not 1/2 as fast.

Thanks for sharing these numbers with us, but they do raise two important questions in my mind:

- The area damage of the Heavy Catapult is supposed to be greater than the standard Cat (and it does look that way in the game), yet the numbers you gave are equal: 1.5 for both. Is this a typo or a long standing myth?

- Since you have the real, golden database from which the game was compiled, do you think it is possible for you to publish the entire set of actual figures? I am sure you have it, and since you are giving out the numbers in the forums, and others are making tables anyway, why not get it straight from the, uh, horse's mouth?
