We chopped down every single tree on the map. We had to have our peons run across the map to get to the last precious stragglers. In the last hour of the game, tool age units and peons came into battle. I was building scouts instead of scythes, and my ally was building axemen and slingers. Each side did have a few precious cats left however, and these were used with utmost care. There were sacrifices of 20+ peons to kill a single cat. Those 300 hp Hittite heavy cats don't go down easily. The enemy however, had one single Hittite priest remaining, and that proved to be the lynch pin for us. This was a GG. It was like Road Warriors or something.
So, my inquiry here is regarding tactics to be used in the very last stages of such a game. The enemy Hittite apparently encountered this situation before, and knew what to do. I didn't. I laughed when I first saw his tool age units, but I soon ended up producing my own post-Iron tool age army. Some pts I picked up:
- b4 running out of wood, make sure that you have at least 1 market remaining.
- b4 running out of wood, make sure that you have at least 1 trade boat
- b4 running out of gold, get at least 1 priest
- b4 running ouf of gold, get jihad, if you can
- tower like mad
Any other points?
Thanks.
