I can understand not putting out the RoR patch until after AoK is released because (hopefully ) they are putting all of their time and efforts into AoK.BUT, why are they not releasing the trial version until after AoK is released. I for one will buy it without playing a demo if I have no choice, but every other company in the world releases a demo/trial version before the final version hits (sometimes way before!) so why is ES doing differently?

Well eug, I think you answered you own question with the comment,
quote:
I for one will buy it without playing a demo

Most of the time demos are released for marketing reasons. As AoK is one of the most anticipated RTS games to come around in a while, they gain little by releasing a demo for this reason.

It may also be that they don't want to take the time to package a demo for release. It's currently slated for an October release, and if the ship date slips much, they'll miss the crucial Christmas season.

True...but it would be a lot cooler if they would release a demo in , say, the next month or so... I have waited forever for AoK so that is why I will buy it anyway..but most of the time I do want a demo or many reviews or something first.

I agree eug, it would be nice of them to release even an unoffical (read: unsupported) demo. 'Course, if they did that, no one would play RoR anymore.

BTW, I got a call from MS playtesting yesterday. They want me to come in Sat morning to test a new game they're working on. They never tell what the game is before coming in, but they were sure interesting in my RTS experience. **Crossing fingers**

I'll let you know how it goes. (Within the bounds of the NDA, of course.)

Excellent deduction, Mr Hemlock! You're right, if they released the AOK demo now, the interest in ROR would shrink. Look, they just released AOE Gold, I'm sure they are hoping to sell lots of those in the next few months.

I for one am content with how they are doing things. Most of the time, I want to try before I buy, and I've been burned by not doing so. However, AOK is so high profile, and there is so much evidence that it will be a great game, that I'll buy it right away too.

The hard part is the wait . Guess we'll just have to be patient.
