Last night Jaheed and I played FWH_Wolfpack and jihad_jake. We played huge narrows and pick enemy civs. I got Palmy at 9, Jaheed Greek at 6, jihad Greek at 12 and Wolf Palmy at 3.

Wolf must have had a kick butt location b/c he had high vill count til i passed everyone at 11 minute mark with 20 and 14 boats. I tooled and got rushed by jihad with upgraded clubbers and scouts. Now I had boned peon scouts from wolf and jihad so i figured it was coming. But there was nothing I could do as I had previously built my rax and behind jihads base and only had 120 wood when he came in and I really wanted do bronze and get camels. I put up a tower to slow him and boned some elements of his army that got separated from the rest. But in any case he got all but 6-8 of my villies. Knowing I was palmy I had created the mass fleet to keep the food coming in and it worked. During the rush i begged jaheed for wood and he gave me 168. This allowed my peon behind jihads base to build a stable and range and i bronzed. My food had also allowed me to keep making peons during the rush and their armor bonus had helped me finish the rush. I had finished boning the rush, and I had enough peons to put 2 on wood and rest on gold.

My rax behind jihad kicked out 6 upgraded axmen who wandered into jihads base unabated. Because of his rush and him going bronze he could not stop these axmen. He tried towering his wood spot but I took it out without a loss with 3 of the axers while the rest cut him up. I slaughtered numerous villies of his and Wolf's and completely put his production to a stop other than his fishing fleet. By the time i bronzed i had enough resources for 6 camels and these really stopped jihad in his tracks. He had multiple gathering spots but I knew of all of them and he couldn't muster enough force to take them back, without gold he had no real army. He had bronzed and made 3 cavs which he sent into my base but with fast palmy camels i quickly dispatched 2 and the cavs were toast.

Now this was just my side of the battle and Jaheed rushed Wolf, which didnt slow him at all, and wolf almost crunched jaheed with compies when he bronzed. I dont know how jaheed took out the compies but I know he took wolf's fishing out of the game. Wolf had to fight me as well now since jihad was paralyzed and we sparred with camels but he also had compies so i had to pull some moves out of my butt to win those battles.

Wolfie went Iron which IMHO wasted the resources to make enough compies to hold off Jaheed and still have enough leftover to send to jihad to make hops to help with my camels. Jaheed penetrated his base at same time I dispatched with Wolf's greatest force so Wolf resigned.

The purpose of this post is to ask: what can greeks do against palmy camels and compies or CAs in unison? Jihad admits to wasting the food and gold on 3 cavs but he only could have made about 3-4 hops from that stuff. Now I didn't have compies so that would have worked for a little while, but I did make CAs later and the hops couldnt have caught them and camels would have run from them to kill peons. So what can greek do? He couldn't get to my fishing fleet without going through my base because of the shape of the map. Walling may have been possible, but I was behind him so that wouldnt have helped. What is greek's answer? Jaheed you should post what you did. Should he have waited to bronze rush me so he could protect his gold miners better with tool forces? Greek with gold is formidable, wihout is a joke. I have read thorfinns post but it doesnt solve the problem. I am interested in people's opinions though, so thank you thorfinn and please all, keep posting.

On defense, walls backed by towers. In addition, build some STs and Astrology'd priests. He will be forced to retreat to get some ST, and even then, may have a tough time. On offense, I think you have to take the same tack but throw in a bunch of war galleys. The real trick to all matches like this, IMO, is to pick the place you want the battle to happen. His woodies comes to mind, as long as you can half-@ss limit his access to your troops, as then your guys have something to kill while waiting for the next wave of camels and compies.

Keep your stick on the ice.

You must understand Thorfinn, this was a quick paced game between experts. There was little time delay between him rushing me and me rushing him. He didnt have the resources to build temples, seiges, academies, etc. His forward base could have built a quick tool army but it was in my base so it would have taken awhile and would have just wasted more resources. He most certainly didnt have stone for more than one tower and gold for sts and priests. We play games where our resources are constantly being used, I didnt even have enough wood for a market til probably 22 minutes. We live by the seat of our pants, not built up in cozy holes.

Well, I had written quite a long and detailed post, but as it was lost, I'll answer King directly...

Wolf must have been in a heavy wood shortage because of my rush, as he never claimed the sea back and never built CAs. He spent a long time destroying my first forward base and sent just a few compies and a cav to my village. By that time I managed to wall my village quite well and built a few hops which took care of his invading army. When he finally cleard out my first base and went for my wall, I had another up near him by the other side with hops and STs which I sent to his village. He sent his bronze army but it was taken in an ambush. Jumping to iron made things worse, as my hops invaded his town and he had no army left.

All in all, I think the keypoint playing greek is wall properly. It's much easier in narrows and I guess if he had more wood and/or I hadn't walled, I'd be pretty much dead.
