I'm in severe trouble. Age of Empires (or Rise of Rome) don't work. When I start the program, it generates this error message:
quote:Could not initialise graphics system. Make sure your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw
This is obviously stopping me from playing the game. I have tried turning off hardware acceleration both in control panel and in the "DirectX Tool" program that is on the CD. This problem seemed to come completely out of the blue. I haven't installed any new software or anything. Please help if you know what is wrong. My computer spec is below.
PII 266 MMX 64 MB RAM ATI 3D Rage Pro video card - 2MB video memory.

Uninstall ROR, then Age of Empires, then Direct X 6.0 and directplay. Reinstall in this order, New video driver if one exists (check the ATI web site), Age of Empires, Rise of Rome, then DirectX 6.0, good luck, post what happens with that....

Thanks Jake! I tried what you said. I didn't reinstall the video driver - I thought I'd try that if the rest didn't work. I uninstalled ROR then reinstalled AOE. Finally installed ROR and it ran!
