Well, there is WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) available from www.winehq.com. Personally, I have not tried AoE/RoR under it, though there are reports that StarCraft works tolerably well. If this is the case, then it wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude AoE/RoR would as well. The site:

Describes how to get StarCraft up and running. Please read the whole page and understand that it will NOT be stable. I would recommend using a version of Wine that purports to work. Note: this may not be the latest one!
I'm not sure if AoE/RoR uses DirectX6. StarCraft uses 5, I believe, so AoE be even less stable than StarCraft.
Remember, Wine is not yet complete - they have implemented a significant portion of the Windows API, but still have a ways to go.
