Just testing the waters a bit.

If you are intersted in a tournament, let me know, since I am tinkering with the idea of setting one up. Also, please include how you think that it should be run: game settings, teams? or 1v1, best of 3 or 1 game....stuff like that.

Also, if you are interested in helping, let me know!

thanks

Scarab

thanks

Anything with teams would be fun...(I have to give myself a fighting chance to survive 1st round here! )

Yeah I was thinking of setting up a tournament...its a lot like the UAT.
Itll have 2 brackets...2 on 2 and 3 on 3....im too lazy to set up a third to have a 4 on 4 or 1 on 1/FFA.
anyway the settings would be random and it will be Round Robin....Would anyone else like to set this up? i made the html files for it i just need its name and ill have the page up in 5 minues and ill get it with graphics in about 20.....anyone wants to help with this just let me know

Yeah, I'd be interested as long as there was enough flexibility about when the game needs to be played. My schedule being what it is, sometimes I can't get on the zone for 3 or 4 days.

sounds like a great idea; I realize more brackets would really complicate lives, but the more, the better! Sounds like you already have a few volunteers.

If it's a 1v1, then it should be best 2 out of 3 games to help compensate for bad starting positions. I'd be more interested in 2v2 or 3v3. If there's enough people, I'd even split it up into pools and start with a round robin in each pool, with maybe the top 2 teams from each pool advancing.

Just ideas...

I have an Idea, 3 players on a team, tourny hosts decide if its 3v3,2v2 and 1v1, or 1v1,1v1, and 1v1.Team captain sets whpo goes where in 2v2 and 1v1's or 1v1,1v1 and 1v1's.
Random Maps, Settings Randomly Decided before the Game by host, Civilivations Chosen by host to keep civ fairness. Use a point system, each player who is victorious wins one point for the team, and then a best of 3 to decide the champs, where in the end there is a 1v1,1v1,and 1v1, a 2v2 and 1v1, and a 3v3, the settings for each game is different. It can be hosted by the APC Clan and called the Tribal Alliance War Tournament. Complicated? I can make a mock tourny set-up if it is.

Good idea Cherub Desert R

You and I would have to be on different teams though. We couldn't win teaming up against one player!

I like the name for the tourney as well. Lets run with this one!!!! It gives both team and head to head battles.

hmmm... i think we should single out king and not let him participate. else it will be harder for me to win the tournament.
anyway, i'll help out with the tournament if you want scarab.

Rounin, I agree that I should not participate in this tournament, just to keep this fair for everyone, especially the rookies. Of course I have a friend illiniman that will want to play but don't worry, he has only played one APC game.

I also like the idea of 3 person teams and I invision it like you said, 3 1v1 matches, or 1v1 and 2v2, or 3v3. I actually like the idea of doing all 3 of these but then the tournament would take forever to resolve. I love to make brackets and be a statastician on the side so if you need anything holler.

Excellent!

I'll take everyone up on their offer to help organise/set up the tournament. It looks like it would be teams of three. We (all those who volunteered to help) will post a sign-up thread as well as a list of rules/settings.

Hopefully we can get this started before the end of May.

I will play if you guys will let me, I definently want the 1v1 bracket and maybe team games, but im undecided there.

But count me in for sure on the 1v1 bracket. That is, if you let me play (this isnt APC only is it?)

Hey Cherub Sting

The teams would have three players each, but the games would not have to be 3v3. They could be three 1v1's or a 2v2 and a 1v1, or a 3v3. The tourney would be open to all (not an APC exclusive)

You still would have to dig up two team mates.

BTW. . . Rounin has to take a number..I want my revenge on you first!

Just curious, I can see how a 3v3 or 3 1v1 games would work, but what about a 2v2 & 1v1? That's only 2 games, what if they split? Points doesn't work either because it renders the 1v1 game irrelevant.

darn it scarab, since you'll be busy with the monitoring and setting up. let me have the first round with sting. i want to let him see the new power of a rounin!
hey king, how about asking your friend illiniman if my friend TinHa99 could be teammates? i won't be playing either. but my friend TinHa99 will. i think i'll just ask my friend to revenge against sting for me. i'll just sit next to 'him' and watch.

If I am available for the tournament I would certainly like to offer my services. I think my dog could probably beat me 1 on 1 so that is definitely out. Maybe I could fill in as a third if someone has to leave.

I would really like to see one of these tournaments come to a successful conclusion so I will do my best to help.

I do have a small concern though. For example . Team 1 defeats team 2 in 90 mins. Team 3 takes 150 mins to beat team 4. Team 1 is scheduled to play team 3 next , therefore team 1 must wait an hour for their next game. A long wait. And the actual wait time wouldn't be known until both teams finish. And after playing a long drawn out game team 3 might be a little tired.
This is why I feel for a tournament to be successful, it would have to have a realistic timetable for completion. If the tournament isnt completed on its first attempt, then the likelihood of the same teams being able to get together again to finish it might not be too good.

Anyway I am just speculating here. Lets get together and do this thing and hopefully we will all learn from it.

Its 1 point for each player who recieves the "You Are Victorious" Sign. So the 1v1 game will still count for 1 point.Ill make a mock tourny to show what I mean

Just a quick thought. I'd love to play, but don't want to play against a team of "ringers". No offense, chubby and hemmie, but if we were on a team against _bane, centuarie and trunks, (just picking people who post here), think it would go 30 minutes?

Why not take all the contestants and randomly assign them to teams? Seems a heck of a lot more fair. Pretty simple, too. Heck, an Excel spreadsheet sorted on a column of random numbers would spit out "fair" teams as often as your computer could refresh. Just a thought. I used a similar selection method for monthly random drug testing, and it held up in court...

But, if the masses decide on set teams, what nick does your dog use, Boneser again?

Keep your stick on the ice.

Random team generation...hmm, sounds like something they should add into AOK. Of course, if it works the same as random civ generation...hmm, I'm thinking of a random civ/team/map matchup that would happen all too often:

Jehu - Minoan
King_Highlander - Hittite
Jihad_Jake - Phoenician
vsKurtiebird - Palmyran
fresh_meat - Greek
some_newbie - Persian

Well I'll play in a tournament no matter what the settings... And I'm willing to play on anyone's team... And I'm a decent player as long as I get a reasonable civ (which is basically everything except greek ) *expects to get greek for every game now by some strange cooincidence* lol

I have been thinking about a tournament for a long time so I'd like to give my thoughts although it sounds like I might be a little late (story of my life).

1. Games would be 2 vs. 2. This provides a combination of teamwork while maintaining a lot of 1 vs. 1 action. In other words, provides the broadest spectrum of multiplayer experience.

2. At the time of "sign-up" each player would have to give an honest appraisal of his skill on a numeric scale. Teams would then be matched up by the tournament organizer(s) with a view to equalizing the teams. In other words, the best players would be paired with the worst and average would be paired with average. I believe this would be in the best spirit of the APC because (a) the best players would have the challenge of something close to a 2-on-1, (b) the least experienced players would have the opportunity to mentor with one of the best and (c) the average players would have an opportunity to meet and play with someone at their own skill level.

3. All games would be played at default popular settings eg. Huge Med, no reveal, 150 pop, no cheats (of course), default everything. Any or all of these settings could be modified my unanimous consent of
all players.

4. Special rules would have to be developed for dropping. This would be more complicated than difficult.

5. Opposing teams would have a reasonable time to set up the time and place of their games with a time limit at each level of 7, 10 or 14 days. By not trying to get the tournament all into one night virtually everybody should be able to play.

My thoughts and, of course, I'd be happy to help (in any event).
