First off, I would like to say that i'm defintely no expert at RoR. I usually end up playing in the rookie rooms at the zone and what i've been noticing recently is that tool age attacking works really well.
What I mean by tool age attacking is early in the game (well before 20 min) sending in an army of upgraded archers and axemen. Fully upgraded armor. What I have been doing is having about 10+ villies on wood, some fishing boats, and about 8+ villies on food (berries/ellies) then moving a few villagers near where I suspect an enemy civ is located. Build a stable, one barracks, and about 3-4 archery ranges. Build a scout and find the enemy while you build around 8 axemen and 20+ bowmen. IMO this is unstoppable when not expected. It seems that most players are building economy at this point in the game and panic when facing such an attack. Does this work well when facing "good" players? Do experts use this strategy alot? Is there a better one?
BTW, I usually end up wiping one opponent off the map and then go to bronze/iron and take the rest while my allies bronze quickly and attack at will.
