    Downloads FAQ

Can I upload my scenarios and campaigns for free?

Yes, you can. But you must register for the site first. This can be done in the forums, and it is also free.

How do I upload my own files?

First pick the category you want to upload to. For example, if you want to upload a new campaign for Rise of Rome, you would have to click on the category “Rise of Rome: Single Player Campaigns.”

When the page loads, look for the box titled “Submit File.” If you are not logged in, it will ask you to do so once you click the button. Once you log in, a page will inform you of further details. Once you read it all, at the bottom is “Step 1.”

You must now pick a category for your work. For the example you would choose “Rise of Rome: Single Player Campaigns.” After you click the button to go to the next page, a page will load with a field of information boxes, that are labeled as:

    • Title
    • Short Description
    • Number of Scenarios
    • Difficulty
    • File Description/Author’s Comments

After you fill those out, at the bottom of the page, is the box where you specify the file to upload. Find the .zip file (.zip files are preferred at AoEH) and press “Submit File.” You are now done! Once the administrators approve your file it will be uploaded. This will usually take 24 to 72 hours.

How do I install downloaded files?

The first thing to do is look at the file extension, ie the last three letters of the filename after the dot. For example, mycampaign.cpn would be a campaign for AoE.

Campaigns end in .cpn for AoE and .cpx for RoR. If it is a campaign, it should be extracted to c:\[wherever AoE is installed]\Age of Empires\campaign.

Scenarios end in .scn for AoE and .scx for RoR. If it is a scenario, it should be extracted to c:\[wherever AoE is installed]\Age of Empires\scenario.

Some files come with extras like bitmaps, ai and per files. You do not need to extract these in a campaign. In a scenario the bitmap should go in the scenario folder and any AI or Per files go in c:\[wherever AoE is installed]\Age of Empires\data, for AoE, and c:\[wherever AoE is installed]\Age of Empires\data2, for RoR.

Modpacks and utilities should come with their own instructions. Always read instructions is the file has any. There are too many different types to give specifics, so ask in the forum if there are no instructions or if they are unclear.

Can I review the uploads, or is there a special team to do so?

Anyone can review uploads, as long as you follow our Reviewing Guidelines.

Can I post in any other language than English?

Sorry but no. This applies to both downloads and reviews. We do not have the staff or the time to translate such things to ensure the content is safe, nor do we want people abusing this rule to post insulting content in another language to try and and evade the Code of Conduct and Review Guidelines. If you do post anything in any language other than English, you will be asked to provide an English translation. Failure to do so will result in your submission being removed and a possible ban.
