Omnivac on Martyrdom
by Angel Omnivac
This may be very very cool.
Deleting a priest while he is converting (he dies but you convert
automatically the unit he was targeting).
Lots of people think it is a waste (probably the samee ones
that say priests are a waste) but I don't agree with this.
I view this as a back-up weapon only (except some occasions,
see below). Players that use lots of priests will continue to
play as usual. They know when their attempts will be futile,
and the end result is all your old farts biting the dust. On
these occasions, since you will lose your priests anyway, you
delete them to take some enemy units with you. At this point,
you're better off in Rise of Rome than actually, where you cannot
do anything. Makes sense so far?
600g might be high, but it's more or less its value. I don't
see any problems with players using a lot of priests having
trouble paying 600g for martyrdom. At least for myself, I don't
see any problems.
When Martyrdom could be use offensively?
On units guarding a wonder behind walls and towers. You convert
some units and jump on the wonder. Just before of course, you
started an attaack with Elephants to attract towers fire if
they are in great number, giving you time to perform your dirty
deed.
Same way you do converting enemy towers. My War Elephants and/or
Elephants Archers attack units or buildings I don't want, Towers
fire on them and then I move my priests on towers. You can catch
a lot of people unguard this way if they are looking elsewhere.
Some players are more areful though, and will retarget their
towers on priests as soon as they see them.
Defending a wonder. Provided you have gold, and temples inside...
you should hold off incoming attacks very well. Actually, this
might be a pain in the yahoo, defensive priests behind walls
and towers.
How many times my old dudes were chanting, only to see transports
unload their cargo of death? Well, with Rise of Rome, a priest
will die every time a transport is coming toward the beach.
This you can be sure.
Against Macedonians. This will be a complete waste. Don't think
you can fight back with martyrdom. Too costly. Macedonians might
well be my curse with RoR. Oh my poor Egyptians.
One thing I know. I think there;s a lot of people piling up,
waiting to choose Macedonians as soon as I choose Egyptians.
Cripes!
All in all, martyrdom should be good and I look forward to it.
