Analysis of Wedsaz's Minoan Fast Boom Strat
by Blitz
Let me try to constructively evaluate this "Minoan Fastboom" once
again. First of all, its focus is to rush to Bronze with a large
sea econ and defeat opponents with Compies. Targeted time of attack
would be 14:00-15:00 with 4-6 Compies from 2-3 Archery Ranges (wedsaz
feel free to correct these numbers). This strategy is targeted at
land base civilizations?(wedsaz please help) The Minoan Fastboom
would best be utilized on a Conti map. Typically fighting on Conti
happens on land first, then on sea. Fighting usually starts on land
on Conti between 12:30-14:00 and on sea after 18:00. The Minoan
Fastboom requires an overwhelming early Bronze attack to be
successful.
By todays standards, the Minoan Fastboom econ will be small. Most
Zone experts "can't" lose if they go untouched the first 12-15
minutes
of the game. This means you must have forwards building ranges on
opponents land to hurt economy quickly before losing window of
opportunity.
The best variation of this strat may be to Tool quickly and have
an Axer/Slinger rush before 10:00. This requires early exploration
to find opponent and set up Barracks before you Tool. This will
be difficult however because your one forward builder is quite busy
building docks and houses up to hitting Tool button. The execution
of this strategy on a Medit map is near impossible. This strategy
relies on food gathered in Tool and Bronze to feed Compies to win.
By todays standard, there is no way you can have a fishing fleet
after 13:00 with no navy protection. Having -15 Villagers after
13:00 against an economy of 38-50 Villagers won't bring many wins,
even if 5-6 Compies kill some enemy Villagers. Their land retaliation
against your small economy will be the fatal blow and you will be
defeated 99% of the time by 18:00. you will have a stockpile of
food, but that is all you will have going for you. You will go into
Bronze wars with only a small land econ and your opponent will have
land and sea. 5 Villagers on berries and 5 on gold in the Bronze
Age aren't going to bring you very many wins -- regardless of your
times. How many times have you been Minoan on the run with 2000
food, but no wood or gold? This is usually what happens to a weak
Minoan player in a team game -- getting hurt on land in Tool but
your team bails you out on the sea and you are left with lots of
food and nothing else. It has happened to me several times. The
strat solely relies on having free fishing. Your Bronze attack will
be hard to focus on as you are watching all of your fishing boats
get killed. That Compie upgrade will take forever to get there.
A very simple 3-4 Bowmen or Axer or Slinger attack will finish you
off. You've already conceded the sea.
